I know that the Wootens of Fairfield County, SC were listed on the cencus several times as Outens and one time as Ortens another time they were Woolens because someone forgot to cross the t. I thought I would never find them because of these spellings. but I went through the entire cencus and they were there from 1790 to 1900. Aaron, John, Matthew, Daniel, Moses, from grandfathers to sons. The only question I have had on this Wooten/Outens is was the original spelling of these Wootens or Wootan and I know that in 1778 Daniel signed his name as Daniel Wootan and it was easy to read when he recieved payment for Rev. service. Today the name is spelled Wooten but as long as they are my ancestors that too is OK. Glenda
