I am not sure of our Wootens because my great grandmother Ellen Beatrice Wooten Cook Lilly lived with a daughter by her second husband, George Lilly, in Oklahoma when she died. We aren't even sure of her burial place, but we *think* we may have located it. My grandfather, R. I. Cook, was about 8 or 10 when his dad, Alfred G. "Fredda" Cook, died. "Grandma Lilly" married George Lilly and had more children. I have a couple of pictures of Grandma Lilly (Beatrice Ellen) after she was older. I found a family group on this list that sounds like it might be our Wootens because one of the daughters in the list had the same name and birthdate as our "Grandma Lilly": John S. Wooten, b. 1815, LA m. Caroline, b. 1824 MS Children: Francis b. 1841 Laura b. 1844 John S., Jr., 1847-1914 William b. 1850 George b. 1853 Susan b. 1854 Ema b. 1857 Ellen Beatrice 1860-1930 Following are stories that my auntes sent me. Both are in their 80s, but they seem quite sharp mentally. Probably the stories they heard from their grandmother are accurate remembrances. "Grandma Lilly told me when she was a little girl living near Houston that Sam Houston visited her parents. Sam Houston bought horses from Grandfather Wooten. One time he brought Beatrice [Grandma Cook Lilly] a pretty dress." "When President Lincoln freed the slaves, Grandma was about 4 years old. She said the slaves wrung their hands and said, "What will we do? What will we do?" "When Grandma and Grandfather [Cook] married, the black nanny went with them. When Papa [R. I. Cook] was born, the nanny cared for him until she died. Papa remembered her. He said she would chew his food for him before he grew teeth. When he told me this, I said 'Ugh!' Papa said, 'She was a clean lady [and] that was the way babies were fed before baby food." Lova, your grandmother, was my cousin. James Elzy was my great uncle. His brother Ulysses Grant Wooten, U.G. Wooten, also known by Parker Wooten was my grandfather. We actually were just in that area of town over Memorial weekend doing more research. We have no pictures on this side of the family. If you have any pictures of these family members, I would love if you could send them to me. We have some pictures of Ulysses and his wife, Catherine Matilda "Kate" Wooten. We also have a picture of Robert E. and Martha and their five kids. Although Sarah C. is not in this picture, we are not sure if she was dead at this time or not. But we can not find her. If I can help you anymore, please let me know. Thanks, Betty and Mindy

Along with every reply, I get a notice that someone has posted a reply in my email box. Fine. I checked the box to get em. No one forced me to. Hi listers, I am interested to find if anybody knows about this family and has any information on them. If this is the family I think it is, there would also have been an older daughter Jane, who got married in 1850. I will welcome any help or suggestions.
