    3. Hi, I wonder if anyone has a Wooten family that both parents were born in VA (possibly 1800), all their children b in OH between 1830 - 1840????? It is very possible they went to IN later, but not real sure on that one. I am trying to trace down the parents and siblings of my gg grandmother, Jane Wooten, b OH 1831. Thanks, Karol Gale

    3. Hi Listers, I have been searching for many years for the parents of my gg grandmother. Jane Netta Wooten, b 1831 in OH. I don't know which county. (sometimes her name is written as Jannetta - or similar to that) She married in 1850.. to Ananias Wilson who was b in 1830 in OH. (Also no parents names or county of Ohio known) They married in St. Joseph County, IN. They had 6 children, three of whom lived to adulthood. Ananias died in the Civil war, then Jane moved to IA where she remarried to William Hamilton Goodpasture. They are on the 1880 census in Polk County, IA. In the Late 1890s they moved to Oregon. I suspicion that Jane's father's name may have been George W. Wooten, so have been keeping an eye out for that name. (Jane's 2nd son was named George Worth Wilson). Any clues or suggests are most welcome. Thank you, Karol Wilson Gale kgale@jps.net

    3. The parents of both Jesse Wooten and Rosanna Wooten are unknown. Below is some suggestions that have been passed on to me. In Iredell Co., NC, 1830 census there is Elizabeth (possibly Jonathan Wooton's widow), Jesse, John, and Moses. The names here bear a close resemblance to Jesse and Rosey's children. Could Jesse be the son of Jonathan and Elizabeth. In the 1800 census, Jonathan is listed with 1 male 16-26 and 1 female 16-26. In 1810 census shows three young children. Richard Wooten suggests that Jonathan may have been the grandson of George Wooten. If this is true, then he could be the son of John, Daniel, or Moses. The will of Richard Wooten: 12 Mar 1803 - Richard Wooten wrote last will. (Surry Wills, vol. 3, pp. 85-86). The will identified in order his daughters Rebecca, Mary, wife Mary, sons, Abraham, John, Jonathan, Moses, Aaron and daughter Sucky. His wife Mary and Abraham to be executors. Wife Mary is to have land (180 acres). Upon her death Abraham is to receive all his mother's porton but is to pay 10 shillings apiece to John, Jonathan, Moses, Aaron and Sucky. Will not probated until 10 Feb 1808. We have already found John and Jonathan in their own households in Iredell Co. in the 1800 census. Moses was also in his own household in 1800 in the Surry census. We may thus conclude that Abraham was still living on Richard's farm making him the clear choice as executor. Youngest son Aaron is also most likely still on the farm (Special Studies, vol. IV, pg 158; from Forrest Wooten). My Wooten Line 1. Jesse Wooten was born Bet. 1805 - 1807 in NC. He married Rosanna Wooten July 07, 1828 in Surry Co., NC. She was born Bet. 1805 - 1810 in NC. 2. She was born January 04, 1852 in Darke Co., OH, and died May 1931 in Lansing, Ingham Co., MI. 3. Calvin Elsworth Wooten was born April 12, 1874 in IN, and died 1918 in MI. He married Etta Mae Cokonougher August 25, 1901 in Latty, Paulding Co., OH, daughter of John Cokonougher and Mary Purtee.
