    3. I have a Shadrack Giles Wooten b. 10/3/1859 s/o Shadrack Wooten III & Sarah Elvira Davis. A sibling of Shadrack Giles Wooten is Jessie Dodd Wooten b. 7/2/1872 Columbus Co, NC d. 12/8/1962 Spencer NC m. 11/29/1899 to Arthur Council. Is this possibly the Jessie Wooten that you are looking for? If so, we have this lineage on our web page address below. I'd also like to know more about Arthur Council as I am researching a Council family also. belinda melton hughes www.bjhughes.org -----Original Message----- From: Dr. Martha Wooten Solomon [mailto:dr.martha@cox.net] Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 5:35 PM To: WOOTEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Shadrach Wooten Pat, I do have a Shadrach Wooten b. about 1866; he is the son of Shadrach Wooten and Sarah Elvira Davis. However, I do not have this Jessie listed as a male or female, since I was not sure which applied. Perhaps someone on the list can help us with this line. Nor am I sure where this line lived. 3. I am looking or anyone that might have information on a James Wooten/Wooton who married (as yet unknown) and had three children, Melvin, Mildred Ellen and Wilma Irene between 1916 and 1922. All three children ended up in the Christians Home in Council Bluffs, Pottawatomie Co. Iowa in the late 1920s. The 1930 Census shows all three children being born in Iowa and the Father from MO and the Mother from IA. I have found two James's that might work but I have nothing substantial to go on.

    3. I am interested in the Wooton spelling of the name. My grandmother married a Claude Cleveland Wooton in Atlanta in 1910. They lived with his mother a Mrs. Love. One of these messages really intrigued me because it contained the name Cook. My Gmother's second husband was "Mr. Cook" - I haven't managed to find a marriage license for them yet but it would be in the Atlanta area also. Claude apparently appeared from no where and vanished in the same manner. 3. Hello List! I am trying to "connect the dots" and get further information on my grandfather and his parents. Russell Raymond Wooten b. 4/24/1917 d. ab 2001 (I have the exact date of death in a file I have not yet unpacked from our move.) Russell Raymond fathered several sets of children with several women. We would like to locate my father's siblings, the children of Russell Raymond Wooten. So far we have located 2 siblings on the eastern seaboard (both of which have since passed away) and we know of a half-sister in CO but have been unable to contact her. Further information on Russell Raymond Wooten's parents is also needed. Here is the information from the birth certificate. Please note that all records we have point to the spelling "WOOTEN", but on the birth certificate the name is spelled "WOOTON". However, it appears to have been filled out by the registrar which could account for a misspelling. (Based on RRW's social security application we have the full name of his father as George Washington Wooten and mother as Eunice Esther Grass Wooten.) Russell Raymond Wooten County of Franklin Village of Linden Heights Cleveland Avenue Male, Legitimate b. 4/24/1917 Father: George W. Turner of Linden Heights signed the certificate stating that the child was born alive to Eunice Grass Wooton at 6:45 pm. The paperwork was filed April 27, 1917. Registrar A.H. Brobst. The child's given name was added to the report on May 5, 1917 signed by A.H.B.

    3. Hi Betty I'm not sure how closely the original 1880 census follows the computerized version; I have found several 'fuzzy' entries (i.e. slightly incorrect compared to external more reliable (I think) data) in the online census. But it is wonderful to have and has filled in a number of missing links and leads on which I will now have to find time to follow through. Arcane trivia: The 49er Woottens derive from a Wootten-Waters marriage though I am not aware of any of these Woottens moving South; they tended to move from Delaware through Ohio and Indiana finally to California and Modesto and Stanislaus County. At last contact, the family was in New Zealand, Korea and Wisconsin. person: Nancy WATERS (D'Audney) x x born: 1797, Delaware x died: 1865, Colorado. x x father: Samuel WATERS (3962) x x mother: x x spouse: William WOOTTEN, cb. 1817, Delaware. (1461) According to family lore, she accompanied the family west in her rocking chair bolted to the wagon. In Colorado, hearing that one of her sons was living nearby, she decided to take the wagon to visit him. Alas, the horses became spooked and the wagon rolled over, killing this estimable pioneer lady. 3. > Arcane trivia: The 49er Woottens derive from a Wootten-Waters marriage though I am > not aware of any of these Woottens moving South Thanks for a very interesting story. I'll add it to my files. However, I think my Caroline Waters connection is more recent than the one you describe. Perhaps the more recent Waters connection is distantly connected to the one you describe. In my searches, I continue to be surprised at how many generations the same surnames seem to be intertwined. I suppose they all migrated together over the years. One of my aunts who is now deceased wrote in a letter that a Waters "cousin" came to my grandfather R. I. Cook's funeral in 1966. He was grandson of Caroline Waters Wooten/Wooton's. (R. I. Cook, b. 1883, Ellis County, TX, son of Ellen Wooten/Wooton) The reason this Waters was mentioned in the letter was that in comparing genealogy, the conversation revealed that she apparently had done much research on the Waters line -- back to England, I think. That was the only comment that I have run across, so I don't know which "cousin" she was. I'm still researching. The 1880 Census online is wonderful, but I have failed to find several of my family members there -- and I *know* they were in the U. S. that year. 3. The Church of LDS has posted the 1880 census on the web site below. On it I think I found my gr grandmother's name, but the census has a few things different from what I have. The census has the name spelled WOOTON, but it has the correct first names. I noticed that instead of John S. Wooten, they have S. John Wooton, b. KY, age 64 in 1880, both parents born in Georgia. His wife, Caroline, age 54 in 1880, is shown to have been born in Mississippi (which is what I have), but they have only WOOTON for her last name. I have Caroline's maiden name as Waters. In the census record I found, only two children were still at home in 1880, William, age 30, and Ellen, age 20. However, a George WOOTON and his wife Sephrona and two babies are shown to be living in the same dwelling, E. D. 156. (Does anyone know what E. D. stands for?). <http://www.familysearch.org> I found another discussion group for the WOOTONs, so now I wonder about my gr grandmother's maiden name -- Wooten or Wooton? If that S. John Wooton/Wooten is my gr gr grandfather, does anyone know what the S stands for? Thanks for any words of wisdom here. I realize that WOOTON may have been misspelled by the census taker, but all of the Wootons in Walker (Walker County?), Texas seemed to be listed that way. 3. Would the list member, who is a descendant of Dorothy Jane Wooten, please contact me? Your old e-mail address is no longer working. I do know your name, but did not want to post it to the list. I have found another descendant of our line. Thanks, Martha Wooten Solomon
