I was fortunate enough to receive a lineage chart all the way to a Wooton and Maryann Sandiver. The informaion that I received did not contain the Wooten line that contained Silas Pinnix and his line. I do not know if that was what you were referring to. Would you be so kind as to direct me to the site that you were mentioning.Through my readings and research, I've discovered German Wootons that traveled from South Carolina through North Carolina, Irish Wootons, Wales Wootons, and Quaker Wootons. In addition, the DAR that was disproved by Richard. I even learned of a Moses Wooton that arrived through Canada about 1825. There is one thing that is certain, Wooton Genealogy is difficult because of the continued use of the family names like Richard, Thomas, Moses, and many more.

I have most of this, but you have some wives names that I was not aware of . It sounds like the Whitlock Association has done its homework. There are two others that I am corresponding with by e-mail that have worked a good deal on the Wooten family. I have not seen all of their information but will pass it on if I get anything of interest. Do you have the early lineage figured out back to Richard from England abt. 1640? If not, I may be able to help. Check out the keywords "Wooton Sources." She has a nice webpage on the Wootens, but some of the early lineage has been somewhat changed by the work of Richard C. Wooton and a relative that has continued some of his work.

And Elizabeth, born @1758 in Surry County, NC married Samuel Denny. The children that I have for Richard and wife, Mary, are Mary Wooton b.@1778 in Surry County. I hope this may be of help to others.

It is also my problem that I do not know how accurate it might be. I got it off of Family Search.com and there is no one listed to contact. These are the 2 sons we are trying to decide if one them (which one of them) is the father of John the potter in Washington Co., Va.

Also, a John Wooton that married an Agnes Owen and had sons named John and Moses. John's father was a Richard Wooton, that married a Mary. I do not know for certain, but I think Agnes Owen may have been a quaker, not certain, her father is William Owen. This is information that I have gathered throughout, not certain if it is correct.

John is found in Iredell Co. in the 1820 census, but I have not found Moses. We think either Moses or John fathered a John who founded the Wooten Pottery in Washington Co., Va. It the father of John the potter that we are trying to verify. I do not know if this helps you, but I would suspect that your roots would go back to Richard in Surry Co.

My GR.GR. Grandfathter was a Moses Wooton born 1815 in Iredell County. Unknown who his father is. He married Nancy Whitlock and may have possibly died shortly after volunteering for the Civil War. Had sons named William, Winfield, Thomas, and a daughter named Larah?, possible son named Elbert. Also, Nancy Whitlock's father was James Whitlock, mother was Rebecca Wooton, daughter of Abraham and Cassander Wooton, probably from Wilkes County. Also, in 1850 census of Iredell County, I believe this Moses is living a few houses away for another Moses. I can't remember who his wife is at this time. Also was informed that there is a Moses Wooton that went by John or was named John. Let me know if any of these names sound familiar.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mRXBAIB/780.815.819.2 Message Board Post: I sympathize with your problem. Connecting Wootens in Surry, Iredell, Yadkin, and Wilkes Counties (if there is a connection with the Wootens of Wilkes) is difficult. I am sure that all of them (except possibly the Wilkes group)are descended from Thomas Wooten of Surry County. There were about 15 male Wootens of child-producing age in Surry and the other Counties around 1800. There were Isaacs (2), John (at least 2), Johnathan, Thomas (maybe 3), Aaron, Caleb, Absolum, Moses, and others unknown in Wooten households in the 1790 census. My information is from WARFA Special Study #4, the Wootens of Surry County, N.C., WARFA quarterlies and some credible postings that I have seen. They are available at the LDS libraries and the National Genealogical Society. The name Riley is new to me, but I will add it to my list. I wonder if Riley made the move to Indiana with Lewis Wooton (Gunston)?
