My grandmother was Hazel Lee (sp?) Wooten. She died in 1964 at the age of 43. She lived in Belzoni, MS and West, MS. She had 2 sisters (at least)- Hilda and Edna. She had been married to Otha Bruce and then, William McMorrough. There is rumored to be another husband. I would like to research the Wooten side of my family, but I can't even get past my grandmother to her parents.. If these names are coming up with your research, please contact me. He was approximately 7and half years old at the time and was bound to a Samuel Henry, I believe, to learn to make shoes. Ironically, there was a Ransom Wooton born somewhere in NC about 1826 that was a shoemaker who ended up in Indiana. In my family line there was a Ransom Wooten born around 1890. My line goes to a Moses and Nancy Whitlock Wooton from Iredell. Moses was born about 1815 in Iredell County. It is unknown who his parents were. Does anyone know about Henry's parents or who he might have married?

My 4xGreatgrandmother, Rebecca Wooton, married James Whitlock, Jr. and ended up in Indiana. Her brother Richard Wooton remained in Wilkes County. I have copies of letters of correspondence between Rebecca and Richard that mentions areas of Wilkes County as well as a Wilkes County postal address. Richard's daughter Fannie married a Perdue and remained in Wilkes County. Rebecca and Richard were the children of Abraham and Cassander Wooton. Abraham is the son of Richard married to Mary.

I am looking for information on SAMUEL WOOTAN (b. 1840-1843) of South Carolina. He was married to Eliza A. A. Langston (1860-1862) and killed in Sept 1863 at the Battle of Maryland Heights. He was living in Darlington in 1860 with a 73 year old woman named Mary and a blind woman named Leah (age 32). I believe he may be a son of Ralph or he may be Jefferson Wootan's 12 year old son on the 1850 census of Richland County. Mary is probably Samuel's grandmother.
