I am looking for any piece of information that could identify the ancestry of Joel and Elizabeth Butler WOOTEN, both born in Virginia. They were in Indiana in by 1858 when one son, Elsey (or Elza, Ellsworth or even Eliza!) was born. The latter was living in Darke County, OH, at least by 1877 when he married Mary Elizabeth HECK. He died there in 1930. Any information on the Virginia Wooten's would be most appreciated. Gay Oltjenbruns GAWolfe1947@aol.com

Francis Marion Wootten (born 1828 in SC) was the son of William John Wootten and Susannah Grant Wootten.. Only two of Francis M. Wootten's sons (out of 15 children) came to Chattooga Co. GA. My grandfather and the oldest son. Another set of Woottens in Chattooga Co. were from John and Elizabeth Wootten who settled there in about 1836, they came from SC and was probably a uncle to our William John Wootten. I believe there were also slaves of this family who also took the name Wootten. Then there was a third set, who we believe came down from NC and probably were related to the Woottens of SC. No, NOT all Woottens in Chattooga were from Francis Marion Wootten even if he did have 15 children. Most of those stayed in Dekalb Co. AL where Francis Marion lived....
