    1. SUSAN WOOTEN
    2. Martha Wooten Solomon
    3. One of our new researchers is looking for: SUSAN WOOTEN born abt. 1850-1860, probably in the southern parts of GA. Susan married WILLIAM COOPER and they had a son, JULIUS COOPER. In my files I found: SUSANNA DUKES WOOTEN b. 1854 in GA. daughter of REDDEN WOOTEN and MARTHA ANN DUKES. SUSANNA DUKES WOOTEN married William Cooper on Oct. 23, 1869. I also have fairly extensive files on REDDEN WOOTEN: "He married twice. He married Susannah BYRD in Telfair Co., GA, 17 May 1810. Susannah died after 1840 in Thomas Co., GA. He married Martha Ann DUKES before 1860. Martha was born 1824 in GA. She was the daughter of Elijah DUKES. Census data indicates that Redden Wooten was born in 1785 in Edgecombe Co., North Carolina. Redden Wooten, resident of Montgomery Co., Georgia, won land in Baldwin Co. in the Second Georgia Land Lottery in 1807 (Silas E. Lucas Jr., The 1807 Land Lottery of Georgia). There is no record of Redden having taken up this land. On 17 May 1810 Redden married Susannah Byrd (Telfair County Marriage Book A, Page 2A). On 22 February 1810 Redden Wooten deeded to Charles McArthur, both of Telfair Co. (Telfair County Deed Book A, Pages 150-151). In the 1820 Census Redden's household contained males: one under 10 years, one 16-26, one 26-45; females: three under 10, one 26-45; and six slaves (Telfair Co. Roll 10, Page 446). On 12 February 1827 Redden Wooten of Thomas Co. deeded to William Ashley of Telfair Co. (Telfair County Deed Book H, Pages 16- 17). In the 1830 Census Redden's household held males: one under 5 years, one 10-15, one 40-50; females: one under 5, two 5-10, one 10-15, one 30-40; and eleven slaves (Thomas Co. Roll 21, Page 27). In the 1840 Census Redden's household consisted of males: one 10-15 years, one 20-30, one 50- 60; and females: one 40-50 (Thomas Co. Roll 51, Page 313). After the 1840 Census Susannah Byrd died and Redden married Martha Ann Dukes. The 1850 Census found Redden's household with: Redden Wooten, farmer, age 65, born in NC; and Martha Wooten [his wife], age 26, born in GA (Lowndes Co. Roll 75, Page 362). In the 1860 Census Redden's household held: Redden Wooten, farmer, age 75, born in NC; Martha Wooten, age 40, born in GA; Jno. D. Wooten, age 9, born in GA; Susanna Wooten, age 8, born in GA; Henry D. Wooten, age 6, born in GA; Elijah Wooten, age 5, born in GA; Elisha D. Wooten, age 3, born in GA; and Sarah D. 1. Welcome
    2. Martha Wooten Solomon
    3. Friends, I want to personally welcome you to our new venture for WOOTEN and related families. Please be patient as I attempt to learn the correct procedures for operating a list. The following one of the recent requests I have received from fellow researchers: [email protected] is seeking information on : MARY WOOTEN, b. June 17, 1792, GA; married in 1811 in Putnam Co., GA. died April 17, 1862; buried in Beulah Cemetery/ Beulah Baptist Church/ Lee Co., Beulah, AL. Mary married MILLINGTON POWELL b. 1761-1769; died abt. 1843 probably in Harris Co., GA Known children: 1. MARTHA POWELL (1814-1893) m. NOAH BASS 2.. ELIZABETH ANN HOLMES POWELL m. THOMAS HASTY 3. ABEL ROBINSON POWELL (1828 GA - 1916 AL) m. JULIA ANN DELOACH Mary's father is unknown at this time. However, there is a POLLY ANN WOOTEN listed in the GA Land Lottery, drawing as an orphan. This researcher suspects that Mary may have been known as "Polly Ann". And has found a POLLY ANN WOOTEN m. to MILLINGTON POWELL. This researcher is also seeking WOOTENs from Putnam, Henry, Butts, or Harris counties in GA or Chambers, Lee, or Tallapoosa Counties in AL. Thanks, Martha
