Last week, while researching SC records, I found the following in a deed book which may help someone. Of course, I don't know exactly who John Wooten was, but of all the John Wooten's on my data base, the John Wooten, b. ca 1777 in SC, the son of Aaron Wooten fits the profile best. If so, John & Rosannah Wooten could be two of my ancestors. Laurens Co., SC Deed Book F, pg 396. "On July 14, 1797, personally appeared Manah Barker and on oath sayeth that she was married to Lauren Barker and that several years thereafter a certain Rosannah Wooten proffessing to be a widow was marrying to Lauren Barker. Said Manah and Lauren Barker were married and it was then reported that said Rosannah's husband, John Wooten, was yet alive, which said Rosannah denied but after some time she confessed that her husband was yet alive and that she would leave the said Lauren Barker and would not live any longer with him, for if she lived and died, so she should go to Heal(sic), accordingly she went away acknowledging she was no lawful wife to said Lauren Barker. Sworn to and subscribed before me. Daniel Wright, Justice of Peace" Wonder why this was in a deed book? Were Manah & Rosannah fighting over land as well os Lauren Barker? Forrest Hale
My Wooten lineage is as follows: Bonnie L. Wooten, b. 15 Dec 1911, GA ,d. 23 Dec 1993, GA m. Forest F. John Anderson Wooten, b. 19 May 1859, GA. d. 25 Aug 1928, GA m. Lillie Delph, b. 4 Jan 1857, d. 5 Feb 1904, GA James Madison Wooten, b. 1836, GA. d. 14 June 1865, Camp Douglas, Ill. m. Mary Fitts, b. 1834, GA. d. 30 Nov 1913, GA Henry A. Wooten, b. 1804, SC. d. bef 1870, GA m. Martha Anderson, b. 1814, SC, d. bef 1870 John M. Wooten, b. ca 1775 m. Betsy Anderson 30 Aug 1796, Oglethorpe Co., GA. I would be very happy to share information on any of the above Wootens and allied families. I have been "stuck" on Henry Wooten for several years and I am not sure John M. Wooten was Henry's father. Any help would be appreciated. Forrest Hale
Thanks for the Wooten study regarding those in Surry Cty., NC, as descendants of Richard of Orange Cty., Va. I am of the Tidewater Va. to eastern NC Wooten line and have been perplexed by the the possible connection of the two families. There does not appear to be one. I now live in Forsyth Cty., NC, which adjoins Surry Cty. so run into Wootens fairly often. Glad to get clarification. Bebe Fox Winston-Salem, NC
