Well, our Maggies have different parents but all is not lost yet. I've narrowed my Jesse down to two possibles in the 1850 Greenville Co. Census. One Jesse, 10 yrs old, is the son of James & Judy Wooten and the other Jesse, 11 years old, is the son of Eber & Catherine Wooten. Eber & Catherine also have a son James who is 14 yrs old in 1850 - this is a possible for your James David Wooten, I think. There are no Wootens in the 1850 Anderson Co Census - so it makes sense that your Maggie Wooten could have come to Anderson Co when my Lelia did, especially if they were cousins. I have no evidence yet that Jesse & Emily moved from Greenville Co. to Anderson Co. I'm off to look at the website you mentioned. Hope to hear from you soon. Oh yes, and thanks so much for getting back to me! I really hope I can solve my Wooten riddle with this new information you have. The possibilities are there. The only information I have is the following: Maggie- whom I've come to know as Margaret Elizabeth, by way of a distant cousins research, was ( all this according to her death certificate - which is extremely hard to read ), born in SC June 14, 1878, to J. H. Wooten and Mary Jane Griffin. She died on Feb 8 1937 of obstructive Jaundice probably from a gallstone. She died in Anderson Co., Belton, SC. Full name on the certificate reads Mrs. Maggie Wooten. Widowed- husband was C. J. Alverson. The clerk had to have been somewhat sloppy as the name was in fact Charles Agustus Alverson- known as "Gus", so when someone said C G he or she may have heard C J. Place of Burial was Pelzer SC.The picture of this certificate is blurred and my cousin when she sent it to me felt the need to write over in an attempt to trace over the pertainent information, thereby leaving the interpretation up to her as to what it read. I'd like to see a copy for myself. Her age also traced over, reads 61 yrs 7 mos and 20 days. Problem is the math comes out to only 59 years between what she says the birth and death dates are. Therefore I assume that it would be more difficult for the clerk to screw up the death date than it would be to screw up the birthdate, so the death date I accept and therefore place the birthdate at abt. 1875. I have found a web site at http://www.uftree.com/UFT/WebPages/davidwooten/default/index.htm that has a Margaret Elizabeth born in SC abt 1875 with the parents being as follows James David Wooten and Mary Ann Brown had the following children: 472 vi. Eli Bryant Wooten was born about 1865. MARRIED 1ST COUSIN MOLLY PINSON 473 vii. Catherine Wooten was born about 1867. MARRIED SEABORN HARRELL 474 viii. Molly Wooten was born about 1872. MARRIED PRESTON PARKER 475 ix. Margaret E. Wooten was born about 1875. Problem is when I got ahold of the owner of the site he was no help. Not able to tell me anymore of the person nor from whom he got the information. Anyway if you can help I will kiss your feet!!! Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you! Steve "

Hello Steve - My grandmother - Margie Dickerson Phillips was born in Pelzer, SC in 1915; her mother was Hattie Lelia Wooten; Lelia's parents were Jesse and Emily Wooten- and that was all the information I started with and have spent some time looking for Lelia, Jesse & Emily around Anderson Co. to no avail. Last week I finally found Jesse and Emily in the 1880 Greenville Co Census with their children Jonas b c 1865, George b c 1870, Luther b c 1872, Maggie b c 1875, Lela (Lelia) b July 21, 1877, and Martha b Feb 1880. I believe there are two more children born after 1880, Arthur and Ida (West) listed as surviving in my ggrandmother's obit - Luther was also surviving in 1946 when Lelia died. With this new information, I went thru my WOOTEN file and see an e-mail I printed from the Wooten List and you are looking for a Maggie Wooten b c 1875 with a possible connection to Pelzer. This e-mail is obviously number 3 or so in a thread on the subject so I don't have the original post with the particulars. Could you tell me about your Maggie? Thanks, Donna Roberts Aiken, SC

Family Members, I do not want to get a discussion started about the previous post "The Truth?", however, I have taken steps to prevent any such postings on our list. As you are aware, I can block users from the list. I will do this in the event that inappropriate messages are received. However, I am willing to give one the benefit of doubt on the first inappropriate post, since we all make mistakes. The following is an excerpt of the message I sent both parties involved in "The Truth" message. "Our group is dedicated solely to genealogy research!! Please do not post any further messages on our list that are not specific to genealogy research related to our surname or related families. We do not encourage the posting of items that are not specifically related to our research and will not permit postings of any other sort. Sorry, but any further posts that are not specific to our research will automatically result in blocking you from use of this list. Martha W. Solomon List Owner" We now have approximately 100 researchers receiving our lists/digests and I appreciate the interest and support that each of you have given to our research project. Thanks, Martha
Would be interested in any Wotten information out there. Cornwall descendents.

I didn't have as many of their children as you've found. I had: Council, James, Shadrach (and his family), Mary Jane, Appie, John Shadrach (and his family), and Edward. Appie is probably "Abanilla" or Aberilla.

Fellow Wooten researchers: I found this interesting LW&T of Richard H. Wooten in Marengo Cty, Alabama. Richard never married, however, the document lists all of his brothers and sisters. Seeking information on the ancestry of CLARISSA LUCINDA WOOTEN (30 Dec 1800 - 25 Mar 1853). Married to John Frederick DeBardeleben on 18 Apr 1819. They lived in Blackstock, Chester CO., South Carolina. She likely was from Orangeburg,Fairfield, or Chester County SC based on where he was born and the general geography of the region.
