Hello everyone, I was going through some files and found this. I copied it from the above book. Ambrose Henderson is also on the copies. I will send that to any interested party. Joan Wooten LORINDY (or LORINDA) WOOTEN, my paternal great-great-great-grandmother, was born about 1822 in Arkansas. The same year that she was born, her family moved to Texas. She was the daughter of Moses and Margaret Wooten. Lorindy married Ambrose Henderson. This marriage probably took place in Texas prior to June 3, 1839 at which time her husband received a third class land grant as a "head of family" in Shelby County. The family consisted of eight children and resided in Shelby county, which is probably where Lorindy died sometime after the birth of her youngest child in 1857 and prior to the 1860 census. Sue Smith Reed, (GGGGD), 18720S MOSES F. WOOTEN, my paternal great-great-great-grandfather, was born about 1789 in North Carolina. He ws married to Margaret, last name still unknown, who was bornin Kentucky. Their first child ws born about 1820, place unknown. Their swcond child ws born in Arkansas about 1822. A character certificate on file at the GLO states that his family consisted of a wife and six children and that he emigrated to Texas in the year 1822. Due to his service in the army of the Republic of Texas, Moses ws eligible for land and received Bounty Land Warrant No. 2918 for 320 acre, and due to his early arrival in Texas was eligible to receive a First Class Grant. Moses was a participant in the Regulator-Moderator War while living in Shelby County and on July 28, 1844, he was on the proscribed list of 25 men that Regulator Watt Moorman warned to leave town. However, Moses and Margaret remained in Shelby County where he was a farmer, at least through 1860. At this time I have not found death dates or places for Moses and Margaret Wooten. Sue Smith Reed (GGGGGD), 18722S JUDGE JAMES B. WOOTTEN, (Jan. 8, 1809 - Aug. 26, 1865), head righted land near Savannah Springs, Red River County, in 1833. He later purchased land from the Welborn tract at Shawnee and moved his family and slaves there. In 1848 he received a grant of 640 acres, also in Red River County, and patented it in two tracts. He served as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, in 1842, 1843 and 1844. His first wife, Julia, bore him two daughters, Mrs. James Beaty and Mrs. G. W. Peek. When Judge Wootten was 65 years old, after the death of Julia, he married Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of Thomas and Columbia (McFerron-English) Anderson. Elizabeth was only 16 at the time. Their only child was my grandmother, Mary Columbia, who is buried in a small family cemetery on Shawnee Prairie, est of Boxelder. Elizabeth diedin 1889 and is buried in the English Cemetery, east of Clarksville. Mary Jane (DeBerry) Lowry, (GGD), MOSES WOOTEN HENDERSON, or "Mose" as he was called, my paternal great-great- grandfather, was born March 29, 1845, in the Republic of Texas. He was the third childof Lorindy Wooten and Ambrose Henderson. On Nov. 26, 1866, in San Augustine County when Mose was 21, he married Nancy Permelia Anderson, daughter of Isabella Bodine and Perry Anderson. their first child, a daughter, ws born in 1868 in Milam county and that is where the family ws living at the time of the 1870 census. By 1880, the family had moved to Sabine Parish, LA and remained there the rest of their lives. Nancy died there on May 18, 1917, and Moses died there on May 28, 1927. They are both buried there in the Cassel Cemetery. In History of Sabine Parish, Louisiana by Belisle, Moses is referred to as an early settler and a prominent farmer. He donated five acres of land upon which to build the San Patricio Baptist Church. His obituary stated that he was a man of ocngenial temperament; a man of undaunted civic activity; and a businessman. It has been recorded that he was among the first in the area to have a telephone in his home. Sue Smith Reed, (GGGD), 18722S

I saw the recent posting of the WOOTENs in 1820 NC census. I have been trying to find the parents of Sarah WOOTEN who was born c1810 and who married Daniel R. WHITLEY in Johnston Co, NC on 12-26-1825. They later moved to Tipton Co, TN. The only WOOTEN resident of Johnston County shown in the census was Sherwood WOOTEN. Does anyone have information on this WOOTEN? Thanks, James GARRETT
I, among a few others, are on a search for the Amos and Eber Wootens of Transylvania Co. NC around the late 1800's and early to mid 1900's. The ones I find do not seem to be the right age. Have a habit of copying ANYTHING about the Wootens, as it might give someone else a lead. This was found at the genealogy room of the Transylvania Co. Library. An index to the 1820 NC census, supplemented from tax lists and other resources, shows, at that time period, the following WOOTEN's in the following counties. Name County Shad Bladen Thomas Bladen Jonathan Buncomb Richard Columbus John Cumberland Peter Duplin William Duplin Amos Edgecombe Ephraim Edgecombe James Edgecombe Jesse Edgecombe Stephen Edgecombe William Edgecombe Edmund Granville Sherwood Johnston John Lenoir Lewey Lenoir Robert Lenoir Bryant New Hanover Arthur Pitt Henry Pitt Josiah Pitt Nancy Pitt William Rutherford James Sampson Thomas Sampson William Warren Polly Wilkes These were the given names of the WOOTEN family, listed by county at that time. Thank you.

I am searching for any proof of the parents and siblings of James Wooten born March 1854 Carter County, Kentucky and died May 25, 1916 McDowell County, West Virginia. He married Mattie Martha Messer. These are my gr.gr.grandparents. My grandmother, who will be 94 in April remembers something about the Hall name from when she was small but can't place what it was all about. She said maybe James' mother was a Hall or maybe he was really a Hall. I'm just grasping at straws----I really don't know where to go with this one, any help would be very appreciated. Martha, if you will print this out and save I will send Wiley Cox line later. I was glad to find that Jesse Aldridge was at Battle of Moore's Creek and that Peter Bond Wooten, Sr. was in War of 1812 and Wiley W. Cox, Battle at Bentonville. I have a sheet which I probably copied at LCC from Aldridge book. Says Esther Aldridge, (dau. of Jesse Aldridge b. ca 1758, d. ca 1797 m. Anna Hardy) b. 1789 d. ca 1847 (doubt author knew she went to Fla.) m. 1st Peter Bond Wooten b. 1788 d. 1826, from fall from horse in Duplin, son of John and Sarah Hewes Wooten. She m. 2nd Isaac Kornegay. (writer said didn't know if had children by Kornegay-we know she did - Caroline and Clarissa. Kornegay d. in Greene, then Esther to Jefferson Cty., Fla. to become "Florida Pioneer"). By Peter Bond Wooten and Esther Aldridge bk. gives following: 1. Peter Bond Wooten, Jr. m. - and had LaFayette Wooten who m. - and had (a) Ida Wooten of Fla. who m. John Z. Wooten, son of John B. Wooten and Louise Rhem. (b) Julia Wooten who m. Hoke Wooten, son of Albert Wooten. 2. Hariot Wooten m. - Caldwell. 3. Susan Wooten m. Robert H. wallis. 4. James Wooten (Jimmie) 5. Mary Francena Wooten b. 1844 d. 1910 m. James Pinkney Grantham b. 1836 d. 1894. (Martha, I think interesting that this Pinkney name shows up plus the Grantham name. There is a crossroads named Grantham, s. side Neuse, and one named Pinkney n. side Neuse, Wayne. A Grantham was Wayne sheriff. SO maybe some of the Grantham family made the move to Jeff. Cty., also. Bebe)
A newly found cousin is seeking information on CHARLES HENRY WOOTEN, who was born in the Telfair County, GA area. We believe that he is from the family of JOEL WOOTEN. Any additional information will be appreciated. Your patience with my lack of answers to email is appreciated. In another two weeks, I will complete my prelim exams and can catch up on genealogy research. Martha Wooten Solomon

Found a couple of posts at a web site that were kind of old. Have tried to contact these two WOOTEN researchers but e-mail addresses are no longer valid. They were both on Prodigy and the posts were from 1994. If anyone knows a new e-mail address or snail mail even for these two WOOTEN researchers, please let me know or ask them to contact me: Laura LeBreton, living in Greenville, SC in 1994 Martha Knox, living in Columbia, SC in 1994 They were both asking about JAMES AND JULIA (GOSNELL) WOOTEN both born 1820 in Greenville Co. I am expecting to receive copy of an article published a few years ago in Florida genealogical magazine regarding Esther (Aldridge) Wooten Kornegay, widow of Peter Bond Wooten. Peter Bond was a son of John Wooten and wf Sarah Hewes of current Wayne Cty., NC. John Wooten, d. 1835 I think (not looking at my notes), was a Primative Baptist and Sarah had been a Quaker. After Peter died as a relatively young father his widow Esther m. Isaac Kornegay. Isaac died in Greene Cty., NC. If this article says what I think it will say Esther left NC to join her son John Wooten in the "Territory of Florida", taking her son Peter Bond Wooten, Jr., and two daus. by Kornegay with her. She d. in Jefferson Cty., Fla. in 1845. WONDER IF ANY OF YOU WHO ARE LOOKING FOR GA. WOOTENS COULD HAVE COME FROM EITHER OF THESE TWO WOOTEN MEN?? Bebe in Winston-Salem, NC
