Hi to my fellow Wooten researchers: Ive been reading all of the exchanges of information concerning Aaron Wooten and now Im totally confused! Since we all share our data, I want to make sure mine is correct. According to my records, I have three, maybe even four Aarons. First, Richard Wootens 1808 Surry LW&T, names his children: #42. Richard Wooten (bef.1793/1808) m.Mary (??) 1779 Surry NC Land Entry #473 1779 Surry NC road work 1808-LW&T(Surry NC) lists wf & heirs: i. Abraham (bef.1808/****) ii. John (bef.1808/****) iii. Mary (bef.1808/****) viii. Sucky (bef.1808/****) Second, is the 1814 Fairfield SC LW&T of Aaron Wooten, SR., (Will Bk 6, pg.55) which lists his heirs: wf Mary, sons: Aaron Jr., Moses, Joseph, John, dau Ruth(Miles), Executors trusty friends and sons: John and Aaron. (This Aaron has to be old enough in 1814 to serve as executor) Third, the Claim of South Carolinians for services in the Revolutionary War. If Aaron put in his claim in 1785 for militia duty, then he had to have been old enough to have served. Hes also on the 1790 Fairfield Cty, SC census. 1781 Eliab Wooton. Hello, As you know the WOOTEN list has grown beyond my wildest expectations. Since I began the list on Nov. 23, 1997, we have grown to approx. 150 subscribers. I appreciate all the sharing of information and responses to the list. Recently, several people have sent messages about finding missing links through answers to another person's questions that were posted. Great... In July, Gerald (my husband) and I will be flying to TX to attend a special program in honor of the Wooten Cem. in TX. This specific branch of the Wooten family went to TX after the Civil War. Both, Simon Lee Wooten and his mother, Jincy Lee (wife of Bryant Benjamin/son of Joel Wooten) are buried at this cemetery. A special monument has been ordered for the cemetery. The Historical Society of Kimble Co., TX, will be having a special memorial ceremony on Saturday, July 18, 1998, at the Wooten Cemetery. Ceremonies will begin at 10:30 a.m.. SIMON LEE WOOTEN is the son of BRYANT BENJAMIN WOOTEN. Simon Lee Wooten was married to CLARA JANE RICKS. They were both born in GA. Simon Lee Wooten was born in Telfair Co., GA and served in the CSA. His known descendants include the families of SOLOMON, KING, BUCHANAN, and CLOUDT. I do have information on motels and will send it upon request. Martha Wooten Solomon List Host
I'm looking for information on Wooten's in North Carolina and Georgia. My great-grandparents were Lot and Mariah Annie (or Annie Mariah) Wooten. Through census records I can track Lot and Mariah to Whileville, NC. in 1870 with their children: 1.. Annie (1863) 2.. James (1865) 3.. John (1865) 4.. Will (1867) 5.. Arams (1873 - obviously not listed on the 1870 census record) In 1880, I show Mariah married to Dave Blunt with an additional son, Andrew David Blunt (1877). My guess is that Lot died somewhere between 1873 and 1877 and Mariah remarried. I know that Annie Wooten married Frederick Shaw and raised a family in Coffee County, Georgia, but I have no further information on any of the other children. My aunt says that there were Wooten's in the town she grew up in (Douglas, GA) who were said to be related, but she never knew how. If you have information or an leads on this, please let me know. I am willing to share any additional information, if you are interested. Gail Dawson [email protected]

Cousins, I know that some of you have been asked this before, but in my research I have become more and more convinced that there is a Wooten line in my tree. Please follow: Isaac Harris, born c1729, some say in Meherrin Parish, Brunswick Co, VA, died in Brunswick Co before 1777 when it was "Ordered that John Harris, Wooten Harris, Benjamin Harris, Elizabeth Harris, and Mary Harris, orphans of Isaac Harris, dec'd, be bound out by the chuch warden of Meherrin Parish, according to law." Brun. Co. Ct. Order, Bk 12, p. 175. Wooten Harris was born March of 1759 in Brunswick Co., according to his Rev. War Pension Application. It is very very likely that Wooten Harris' mother, or to a lesser degree his grandmother, was a Wooten. However, most genealogies of the Wooten family have few or no daughters attributed to the first generations. I very much would like to work with all of you to find any data supporting the suppected connection. Which of any Wootens were in Brunswick in the 1750's and could have had a daughter who married Isaac Harris? Could this theoretical female Wooten have been the daughter of an earlier Wooten who left her an orphan to be brought up by someone else? I do not have the parents for Isaac Harris either, but both familes (Wooten and Harris) were in nearby Isle of Wight Co., VA at the close of the 17th Century. Any ideas? This is directed to Luetta Bedford Kirker concerning her query re Nancy Wootton who md. George Hamlett in 1806 in Prince Edward Cty, VA. Leonard Sheffield There is a fairly recent History of Prince Edward County, VA, but it has over a thousand pages and about 100 references to the Woottons...a little more than I care to tackle. If you'd like the author, date and publishing house, you might get it through the Interlibrary Loan option through the local library, or see if it is on microfilm through the LDS/FHC. Hi fellow researchers: I'm having one devil of a time getting a death certificate from the state of Alabama. I asked for J. Thomas Wooten born 1875, and died 1959 in Dekalb County AL and they sent me someone else. Here's the information in case it might be helpful : Thomas Jasper Wooten son of Monroe J. Hello everyone, I'm a new subscriber to the list so I will post my WOOTTON family: I'm researching this family who appeared on the 1861 Census for London, England (Southwark, Surrey): John WOOTTON, husband, age 44, woodcutter employing 2 men & 2 boys, born Bermondsey, Surrey, England. Harriett WOOTTON, wife, age 45, born Southwark, Surrey. John B. WOOTTON, son, unmarried, age 20, woodcutter, born Southwark, Surrey. William WOOTTON, son, unmarried, age 16, woodcutter, born Southwark, Surrey. Thomas WOOTTON, son, unmarried, age 10, scholar, born Southwark, Surrey. William WRIGHT, visitor, unmarried, age 23, chemist & druggist, born Bermondsey, Surrey. This family lived at 22 King's Bench Walk. William WOOTTON (age 16) is my g-g-grandfather. I am searching for his death date (among other things!) His two sons, Charles Alfred WOOTTON and Joseph Wright WOOTTON, were b 1866 & 1868 respectively, so William d after 1868. According to family story, his widow Mary Ann WRIGHT b 1845 North Wales, married again to a man in Parliament and had 5 more children. If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me. Thanks very much. Best wishes, Karen Mohr [email protected]
