Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mRXBAIB/923.1.1 Message Board Post: Sandra, Thanks for replying. You are correct, it is extremely difficult trying to trace Wooten ancestry. Luckily, there was this kind gentleman named Peter who assisted me. And the truely odd part is that I was able to track down one of my Wooten lines using a different side of the family, the Whitlocks. A Whitlock married a Wooten and through the Whitlock Family Associatoin, I was able to learn about that line. There is anoother Wooten line in my family, the one that I acquired my surname form that I can only track back to 1815, but I am going through court records such as deeds, minutes of the courts, and wills to try and determine the rest. I believe that I have it narrowed down to two possible fathers of the line that I am still seeking. If you will let me know the area and time frame of your oldest ancestor, I will see if I can find any clues for you. Also, if you have a couple more names, perhaps brothers and sisters of the one you are seeking that would help, too. I will! keep an eye out for your ancestors as I am doiung my research. If you wish to contact me at my personal Email address, it is partcherokee@triad.rr.com. Thank you. Respectfully, Clarence Wooten

    2. List, Can anyone explain this connection I see so often with the people of Arkansas going back and forth to Oklahoma? It happened in my family. My great grandfather lived for many years in White Co. but did go to OK on occasion. He and his wife, both born in Arkansas were finally buried in OK. I see this traveling back and forth with other families also. I just don't get it. Geneii1@aol.com

    1. Pennix
    2. marsha moses
    3. Bebe, that is extremely interesting. I have just adopted the spelling of Penix from about a dozen different suggestions of what my Silas'a middle name might have been. So it could just as easily have been Pennix. I think that my Silas Penix Wooten had enlisted in the army in Halifax County, Virginia and had just sort of concluded that he was from there because of that. He moved to Guilford County, NC because of his military service--he was in the battle there. Then he married a girl from there and stayed until they moved their family to Kentucky because of land that was granted to him for his military service. His wife's lineage is so interesting that I have been sidetracked from looking any further into Silas's ancestry. You have given me some thoughts and sparked my interest. Thanks so much for sharing the below. Marsha in WV Bebenjohn@aol.com wrote: > > Clarence, > > I am from the eastern NC Wootens but maybe the Wootens in your post were of > Surry Co., NC. Because I'm researching Arkansas Wootens, I don't get much in the way of responses either. That's the way this research cookie crumbles.
