To any interested Woolsey researchers: I received an interesting post from Orin R. Wells of the Wells Family Association concerning the following: "A few days ago you posted the following to the Woolsey list. I am not a member of the list, but I trap anything with Wells in it. I am wondering if you have any more detail on this person? [I have over 40 individuals who have the first name Woolsey (Wolsey) or middle name Woolsey. I thought you may be interested in them and if anyone can add to any of these, it would be appreciated. Recognizing that often names were given because of respect, I think that a lot of these are descended from the Woolseys through a daughter, so that is my interest. WOOLSEY FIRST NAMES Wells, Woolsey B. of Vigo Co, IN] " I don't know if I can identify this person, but I do know of a Woolesy Wells b: Cir 1805 in MA who was in the 1850 census in Defiance Co, Ohio. He was actually named Melancthon Woolsey Welles and had a son born 1848 by the same name. The name in this family came from the following: Noah Wells, born 25 Sep 1718 in Colchester, New London Co., CT and died 31 Dec 1776;.married Abigail Woolsey 17 Sep 1751. Their son Melancthon Wells wasborn 06 Dec 1770 and married Abigail Buell. I have not been able to put the last piece in place linking THIS Melancthon with Melancthon Woolsey Welles b: 1805, but I am fairly certain this is what we will eventually find. Orin R. You will notice from the following record that the son of Noah Wells and Abigail Woolsey was named Melancthon WOOLSEY Wells from the following record. I only had one dau for Melancthon Woolsey Wells and Abigail Buell. It appears there may be three generations of Melancthon Woolsey Wells here. Abigail Woolsey's brother was named Melancthon Taylor Woolsey, children of Rev. Benjamin Woolsey and Abigail Taylor. TOWN: Stamford, Fairfield Co, CT. Town Clerk. Town records 1640-1806.
