To Sue Resinger and interested Woolsey researchers: Hi, Sue. Welcome to the Woolsey List. Your query raises some interesting questions. In my database, I have 20 Catharine Woolseys, 24 Catherine Woolseys, 1 Catie, 4 Kates, 5 Katherines, 2 Kathleens, 2 Kathryns, 1 Kathy and 1 Katie L. - None of which seem to match your Catherine Woolsey Resinger. There were several which match your time period but have spouses and there are only three which match her time-period, of whom nothing further is known, but probably are not your Catherine. 1. Catharine Woolsey b 1804, d/o Henry Woolsey and Rebecca Cochran of Harford Co, Maryland. Nothing further is known of her. 2. Catherine Woolsey b abt 1810 d/o of John Woolsey and Sarah/Sally _____ of Amenia, Dutchess Co, New York. Nothing further is known of her. 3. Catherine Woolsey b 1802, d/o Dr. Jeremiah Woolsey and Martha Montgomery of New Jersey and Hamilton Co, Ohio. Nothing further is known of her. However, your query does raise an interesting possibility with me that is quite intriguing. My direct ancestors are Richard Woolsey and Nancy Plumbstead of Ulster Co, (Orange Co. also) New York, Washington Co, Virginia, and Jessamine Co, Kentucky. I have been working for several years trying to determine their family. Richard Woolsey and Nancy Plumbstead had my ancestor Joseph Woolsey who married Abigail Schaeffer. I believe I have their complete family now. Joseph Woolsey died about 1839 in Fayette Co, Illinois, and several of Abigail's children, with her, came to Utah, although Abigail died in 1848 at the "ninth or last crosssing of the Sweetwater" river. Her grave was dug by her brother-in-law Jacob C. Woolsey who had also joined the LDS church and came to Utah. Jacob C. Woolsey, b 1782 in Washington Co, VA (on the South Fork of the Holstein River) md 1805 in Greene Co, TN to Elizabeth Weger (d/o of David). They had a large family. I have been unable to determine just who were their children, though I am sure of some of them. There is no Catherine Woolsey listed among their children. Jacob C. Woolsey lived in VA, TN, KY, ILL, and UT. Sometime before 1838, his first wife died and he married 2) in 1838, to Eliza ______, in SAINTE GENEVIEVE County, Missouri !! I found that marriage ON-LINE in an "Index to Marriages of Ste. Genevieve Co, MO", but it did not name the wife, only as Eliza. I have not checked the Ste. Genevieve Co, MO marriage records. I notice that this marriage takes place in Ste. Genevieve Co, MO. abt the same time that Catherine Woolsey Resinger begins to have children in Ste. Genevieve Co, MO. Is there a connection? I don't know. However, I do know that these branches of the family are not very well-documented and there are a lot of unanswered questions concerning them. Richard Woolsey who married Nancy Plumbstead, had a brother Rev. Thomas Woolsey, Jr. (both sons of the Reverend Thomas Woolsey and Sarah _____ (Pierce?)). This Rev. Thomas Woolsey, Jr. had a large family and is largely undocumented. His son Gilbert went to Livingston Co, MO. and had a large family. These, and several other families, who came from VA into TN, KY, ILL, Iowa, IND, and other areas need a lot of work, but I have been unable to find any descendants of most of them, so it has been "slow-going". But, at least, you have opened up some interesting avenues. All of us, working together, will be able to "straighten out" these "recalcitrant" families and solve some of these so-called "unsolvable" mysteries. Thank you for your query. It would be helpful to me if I knew the names of the Resinger children. Is there a Jacob? or an Elizabeth. These would not be a definite connection, but helpful in further research. Thank you again. Best wishes in your search. Sincerely, Wilford W. Whitaker
