    1. Felix Grundy Woolsey, continued
    2. Wilford W. Whitaker
    3. To Barbara Kalin Samardich and interested Woolsey researchers: Here is my answer to your query: 1. Felix Grundy Woolsey (as far as I have record) was the only child of Chester Porter Woolsey and Nancy Yeager. By the way, Chester's full name was Chesterfield Porter Woolsey and he had a brother named Porterfield Crawford Woolsey. They were s/o Eldridge Hopkins Woolsey and Lucy Brook. Eldridge was the s/o William Hopkins Woolsey and Celia Houchins. 2. All of the other children you named were 8 out of 11 children of Sanford Columbus Woolsey and Anna G. Smith. Sanford Columbus Woolsey was another son of William Hopkins Woolsey and Celia Houchins. a. Missouri Jane Woolsey b 1848 b. Emily J. Woolsey b 1854 c. Eliza P. Woolsey b 1856 d. Lucy Ann Woolsey b 1851 (You had Ruthy Ann here) e. Milford D. Woolsey b 1866 f. Nancy Ella Woolsey b 1863 g. Ewing Woolsey b 1869 h. Cormelia George Woolsey b 1871 (You had Camilla here which may be the more correct) and three others. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Wilford W. Whitaker

    3. To Barbara Kalin Samardich and interested Woolsey researchers: Barbara, thank you for your post which I am now posting to the Woolsey List. I will answer your post a little later. Barbara sent the following: >From: "ARNOLD SAMARDICH" <ASAMARDICH@email.msn.com> >To: <wwwhit@integrityonline3.com> >Subject: Temple Woolsey >Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2000 22:05:34 -0800 >X-MSMail-Priority: Normal >X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2615.200 >X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2615.200 >X-RCPT-TO: <wwwhit@integrityonline3.com> > >Dear Mr. Whitaker, > >My great-grandfather was Felix G. Woolsey, son of Chester Porter Woolsey and Nancy Yeager. Old family records are somewhat unclear in that it appears Felix had 4 other siblings: Nancy E. Woolsey, born in 1864; Milford Woolsey, born in 1866; Ewing Woolsey, born in 1869; and Camilla G. Woolsey, born in 1871. From reading your correspondence with other Woolsey descendants, I thought you might shed some light on these names. Also, on the same page, appear the following names : Missouri J. Woolsey, born 1849 in Edmonson County, Kentucky; Ruthie Ann Woolsey, born in 1851; Emily J. Woolsey, born in 1854; and Eliza P. Woolsey, born in 1856. I can't connect these to anyone, as the descendant lines are blurred out. However, William Harrison Woolsey, born in 1864 (who I assume is the same as the son of Temple Woolsey) is on the same line. So...I am thinking perhaps these are also offspring of Temple???? >Any light you could shed on these names would be appreciated. > > Barbara Kalin Samardich > asamardich@email.msn.com >

    3. To Hollis Don Woolsey, Arlington, Texas & interested Woolsey researchers: Hi, Don. Thank you for your most interesting posting. I have not run across your family before, so I find it intriguing. I have finished the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses of Texas but did not run across your family, but they seem to have come into Texas after 1880. I did find Richard S. Woolsey and his family in the 1880 Denton Co, Texas, Census, but I can't place him either. He could be an older brother. I wonder about John Johnson Woolsey and John James Woolsey. Do you think they could be the same individual as well as Rebecca Milda Ruth and Amanda Ruth being the same girl??? Stranger things happen by the record keepers. Probably not, but I wondered if the later date was of the return of the actual marriage. Anyway, I'm treating them as two separate families as of this time. I'm going back to the library tomorrow and will check out Cedar County, Missouri, and other areas that pertain. I'll let you know. Thanks again and let's keep working on these. Sincerely, Wilford W. Whitaker

    3. To any interested Woolsey descendant: Donna Briggs asked "I'm curious about the John Woolsey who md Sarah (Sally). Do you a last name for Sarah? Could it possibly be Constant? Donna, thank you for responding. The John Woolsey and Sarah (Sally) (s/o Sampson Woolsey and Mary Gillette, are probably one generation too early for a Sarah Constant. At least for the Sarah Constant that I have. I have a John Thomas Woolsey, b 1823, TN d 18 May 1891, Tabor, Fremont, Iowa [I don't know his parents]. He is found in the 1860 and 1870 censuses of Fremont county, Iowa. This John Thomas Woolsey married in Auglaize County, Ohio, 18 Jun 1848 to Sarah Ann Constant, b 15 Dec 1826 (Ohio) and died 23 May 1919 in Tabor, Fremont, Iowa. 2. Carolyn Wilkerson
    3. Wilford, I appreciate the message concerning Sammis, Salmon, Sampson and SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSo many others that you've taken the time to research and share. I want to take a moment and share about a descendant of Temple Woolsey and wife Maria Jane Johnson. His name is James Edward Woolsey from New Carlisle, IN. James is really a gem of a person. James was a graduate of Purdue University, school of Agriculture and was a teacher of chemistry. His wife Marianne was a graduate of Purdue University School of Home Economics. She was a physical education and health teacher. (I believe they are both retired now but James is always so busy how would I know.) Temple Woolsey mrd Maria Jane Johnson Jesse Columbus Woolsey mrd Mary E Bilderbach Arrata Woolsey mrd Rena Alice Lauderdale Theodore Temple Woolsey mrd Lucinda Mae Johnson James Edward Woolsey mrd Marianne Lower James sent me the original information that I had for Temple Woolsey (along with thousands of other family members). The following is from his notes: Temple and his wives are buried at Barrett Cemetery, Bethel Church, Pike, Indiana. The Barrett Cemetery is on a part of the Temple Woolsey farm. In the center of the cemetery is a large red granite tombstone - this is Temple's marker. His two wives are buried beside. As you stand to face the marker, the first wife is buried on the right and the second wife is buried to the left. Temple's second wife was Leah Beach. Wilford thank you sharing your information, time and self. Carolyn Woolsey Wilkerson honey@texasol.com http://www.texasol.com/honey ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wilford W. 3. To Rhonda Friedman and interested Woolsey researchers: To your first question "so William Hopkins is the s/o George Sr. Woolsey and Mary Hopkins and William Harrison is the s/o Temple" the answer is yes. Temple was md twice, but his second wife was Leah Payne (Beach?) On the second question re: Maria Jane - someone has made a mistake on the website - I don't think there are two stones, but rather one of the dates is incorrect, I believe the second one of her death being 03 - 08 - 1858. When I checked my date calculator I came up with the correct birth date, either 1812 or 1813 according to whether one uses 1859 or 1858 as the death date. I think the 1858 is not correct. Has anyone seen the actual gravestone? Rev. Boucher said Maria Jane died "about 1859" and Temple md Leah Beach. Sincerely, Wilford W. Whitaker

    2. So William Hopkins is the son of George SR. Woolsey and Mary Hopkins and William Harrison is the son of Temple? Another Question was there a Temple Jr. ? Or was Temple married twice? I was searching in the grave yards web site for Pike Co IN and found Maria Jane Woolsey 05-11-1813 - 03-08-1859 beside Temple her stone says wife of Temple then a few graves farther there is a Maria J. 03-08-1858 45yrs. 10 mo 27 days Wife of Temple on stone. In between Houchins Does any one know this? And Wilford I am very sorry that I forgot To thank you for your reply I was so happy about results forgot. Cousin, Rhonda Friedman

To Carolyn Wilkerson and interested Woolsey descendants: Carolyn, you always ask the hard questions: (smile) You said you didn't have a William Hopkins Woolsey who was a son of Temple Woolsey and Maria Jane Johnson. I had said: >William Hopkins Woolsey was the son of Temple Woolsey and Maria Jane Johnson of Edmonson Co., KY and Pike Co, IND. I was doing that from memory and should have double-checked. [Actually I was reading from a pedigree chart which had truncated the middle name to H and I just put down Hopkins] It should have read: William Harrison Woolsey was the son of Temple Woolsey and Maria Jane Johnson of Edmonson Co, KY and Pike Co, IND.
