Hello Everyone, I would like to introduce myself as the new Administrator for the Woolgar List. The List came up for adoption a few days ago as Rootsweb were unable to contact the previous List Administrator and I decided to take on the challenge. At the moment there are just 5 subscribers (including me) and I think that we can do better than that! So, lets make a start by having a bit of a "roll call" of present subscribers! Please will each of you post a brief message to the List to introduce yourself and what you are working on at present? To give the process a kick start, here's a bit about me. My name is Marion Woolgar and I live in Bognor Regis which is a small seaside town on the coast of West Sussex in England. I have been researching WOOLGAR and its variant surnames since 1990 and I have been working on a registered One-Name Study since 1992. My database consists of about 20,000 lines of data. The Woolgar Family Tree commences in 1558, consists of over 500 A3 sheets and contains 3,685 names, excluding spouses. I am currently in touch with about 250 Woolgar researchers, Worldwide. New contacts from Woolgar researchers arrives every day. All letters and E-mail messages are always welcomed and fully answered. The Woolgar data is all held manually as my Study pre-dates the advent of our first home computer and the Study is now so large that I do not think that I will ever have the time (or inclination) to convert it into electronic format. I really would like to make a "go" of this List and to use it as a vehicle both for making contact with new Woolgar researchers and also for maintaining contact with more established researchers. We can use this List as a means of sharing information with others, a most crucial element in any successful piece of family history research. Now, it is over to you. I look forward to hearing from you all! Best wishes, Marion Woolgar TheWoolgars@btinternet.com (GOONS Member 1739)

I'm not as active in research as I would like to be because three young children and my job in computing occupy most of my time. My main area of research is actually the Maskell family in the Surrey area. Most of my information is available on the internet at the following address: http://freespace.virgin.net/dave.maskell/famhist/maskell/maskell.htm There are a couple of Woolgar/Woolger individuals who crop up in my family tree. Sarah Woolger of Merrow (b. 1858) was my great grandmother. Her daughter Alice (b. 1883) is currently my main Woolger interest. I think she emigrated to Australia before WW1 and that is what I am investigating at present. I am also looking for her sister Maria - who may or may not have existed! Hi, I'm Sue Greatbanks, live in Hastings New Zealand though born in Hastings England. My g-g-g-grandmother was Ann Woolgar born 1785, daughter of Josias Woolgar and Rebeckah Battman. I have been researching my genealogy since about 1990, done all the easy bits, now plucking up courage to do the tricky stuff. Glad to see the list up and active, Good researching to all Woolgars and Woolgar descendants Sue
Hi Marion and fellow Woolgar researchers. Glad to see Woolgar-L is in safe hands! I'm Julie Goucher originally from Guildford Surrey and now living in Teignmouth Devon. I have two Woolgar links both connected to my BUTCHER family. Firstly, I have Sarah (born 1772, the daugther of John Woolgar and Ann GRAVETT) Woolgar who married James Butcher in Wonersh 1801. Sarah and James had an illegitamate son John Butcher alias Woolgar born 1795 in Wonersh. John though was illegitamate was known through his life as a Butcher. Sarah and James also had another son born in 1802, baptised Thomas in Wonersh. Illegitamate son John born 1795 married Mary (I have looked for his marriage for more than 10 years and had no luck)and they had several issue including a son Thomas born 1830 in Wonersh. This Thomas married Sarah Woolgar in Wonersh in 1861. There is also the possibility that this Sarah died as Thomas marries again as a bachelor in Hackney, an area which has strong links to my Butcher line. Dare I wonder if Thomas deserted his first wife and married another? This is all for now, welcome to all the new researchers and lets hope we finds some links.
