This is the Peter BLOOM I am talking about Peter BLOOM b. bef 1772 Of Maryland d, bet. 1835-1842 Of Saline, St. Genevieve Co., Missouri m. 28 Sept 1790 Hardin Co., Kentucky to Rachel MATHENY d/o Daniel MATHENY & Isabella COPAS (couple of Shenandoah Co., VIrginia) Rachel died between 1852 & 1859. GOODSPEED's History of SE Missouri: A settlement was made in what is now Saline Township, Ste. Genevieve County, about the beginning of the present century, and long known as New Tennessee. Among the first settlers were Peter Bloom, who came from Maryland, and Thomas Maddin, an early resident of Ste. Genevieve, and a man of great wealth. The latter was deputy surveyor under Soulard, and owned a mill on the River Aux Vases. Peter BLOOM was linked to the BURTCHER//BUTCHER brothers Michael, Sebastian & Bartholomew in Kentucky for sure and seems probable they left Maryland together as well. Michael BURTCHER married Peter BLOOM's sister, Elizabeth BLOOM the Aunt of my Elizabeth BLOOM. It took the federal government more than 10 years to settle their land claims. The community was afraid of losing their highly valued stone masons, they were literally building the first buildings in the territory and the community appealed to the Judge to allow them to stay for the BLOOMs//BURTCHERs stated if they lost their land they were moving West. They got to stay eventually, but Peter BLOOM was actually dead by the time the Congress concluded their consideration of the BLOOM//BURTCHER land claims. They referred to him at the late Peter BLOOM in 1842, and in other documents in 1835 confirmed he was alive at that time which is why I list his d.o.d. as 1835-1842. Hopefully someone out there knows the true date. The BLOOMs, BURTCHERS, & WOOLFORDs were all German families. Peter BLOOM would be my g-g-g-g-grandfather via daughter Elizabeth who married Daniel WOOLFORD. Daniel & Elizabeth had a son named Peter Bloom WOOLFORD in fact though I descend from Daniel & Elizabeth WOOLFORDs son Frederick WOOLFORD who married Louisa ALLEN d/o William ALLEN & Elizabeth "Betsey" STUBBLEFIELD. james wall
