Patricia, Elijah born in Childrey, Berks is on my database, son of Richard. Richard's family is on my Woolford database (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pnlowe/woolford.htm). I think Richard may be from Baulking, where my wife's Woolford ancestor originated, but await confirmation. I would love to know more of what you have on the WOOLFORD side. Interestingly enough a William is found with his parents Joseph Woolford and Susan in Harris Co TX in 1870. If this is the same William, his parents and siblings were born in Maryland. The one before him being born in 1857 and then William in 1862-63 (age 8 in 1870) and the next child ca 1864 in TX meaning they moved to TX just after William's birth. I wonder if Joseph fought for the Confederacy. Jim in VT
Regarding William B. Woolford of Missisippi: I believe that the Woolford slaveholders fled South(1863-Civil War times) while the non slaveholders went West and North. Just an observation of migration patterns. Max Mickey

Hello - You can download this gentleman's death cert at _http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/_ (http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/) I note that the person signing the death cert was from Flat River MO. My former next door neighbor was from Flat River. Small world. Jim in Vermont
I am looking at the State of Missouri Death Certificate for Louisa Emelina ALLEN, am posting because the dates herein were slightly different than what I had and I am correcting to what is on her death certificate. Louisa EMELINE ALLEN d/o William ALLEN b. Tenn & Elizabeth "Betsy" STUBBLEFIELD b. Tenn. b. 14 Nov 1837 Oregon Co., Missouri d. 29 March 1915 Big Apple Twp., Oregon Co., Missouri m. 1) about 1859 Of Arkansas to Frederick WOOLFORD s/o Daniel WOOLFORD & Elizabeth BLOOM. Frederick was killed by bushwackers defending his property from attack bef . 31 August 1864. Louisa and children William Daniel & Elizabeth Perlina survived the attack after hiding. This was at Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. m. 2) 31 Aug 1864 Oregon Co., Mo. to Leonard S. HUFF s/o Leonard HUFF & Sarah MEREDITH Leonard S. HUFF died the next year 4 July 1916. Interestingly his death certificate is not to be found in the Missouri State death index which lends credibility to a claim told my Aunt Mary Lou that he died visiting relatives somewhere in Arkansas, which might account for no Missouri death certificate? age at death 78y 4m 14d cause of death pneumonia duration 10 days burial 29 March 1915 Koshkonong Cemetery, Koshkonong, Oregon Co., Missouri witness was N. B. ALLEN. This is her half brother Judge Napolean Bonaparte ALLEN of Thayer, Oregon Co., Missouri 1851-1941 he was the s/o William ALLEN & 2nd wife Matilda "Marthy" EVANS widow of William RAGAN. She married third WIlliam BLUE and at her death was one of the oldest citizens in Oregon Co. Mo//Randolph Co. Arkansas vicinty known as "Granny BLUE" she died in 1916 about 103 years old. Odd that Louisa was buried the day she died. james wall
I am looking at a photocopy of Emmanuel Pratt WOOLFORD's State of Missouri death certificate. He was the son of my direct ancestors Daniel WOOLFORD & Elizabeth BLOOM. He died 10 May 1922 Flat River, St. Francois Co., Missouri <<I was previously listing April 1922>> He got sick in Irondale apparently. He was buried 12 May 1922. @ Caledonia (I cannot read 2nd word) the undertaker had a Flat River address. He died of influenza complicated by chronic nephritis. Died age 74y 7m 1d. Farmer Father: Daniel BLOOM birthplace "don't know" Mother: It sure looks like Sara BLOOM. Maybe her name was Elizabeth Sarah BLOOM? Lists her as born in Missouri. james wall
This is the land deed of my g-g-g-grandfather Frederick WOOLFORD who was shot and killed 8 Aug 1863 defending this property and the county store he had on it from bushwackers connected to the Civil War. His wife Louisa ALLEN and children William Daniel & Elizabeth Perlina WOOLFORD hid and survived the attack, and then removed to Oregon Co., Missouri where Louisa's three brother's were, and it was safer for her and the children. She married 2nd. Leonard S. HUFF. WOOLFORD FREDRICK Fulton Co. (Ark) 33 21N 5W 80 acres 1860/05/01 james wall
This is the Peter BLOOM I am talking about Peter BLOOM b. bef 1772 Of Maryland d, bet. 1835-1842 Of Saline, St. Genevieve Co., Missouri m. 28 Sept 1790 Hardin Co., Kentucky to Rachel MATHENY d/o Daniel MATHENY & Isabella COPAS (couple of Shenandoah Co., VIrginia) Rachel died between 1852 & 1859. GOODSPEED's History of SE Missouri: A settlement was made in what is now Saline Township, Ste. Genevieve County, about the beginning of the present century, and long known as New Tennessee. Among the first settlers were Peter Bloom, who came from Maryland, and Thomas Maddin, an early resident of Ste. Genevieve, and a man of great wealth. The latter was deputy surveyor under Soulard, and owned a mill on the River Aux Vases. Peter BLOOM was linked to the BURTCHER//BUTCHER brothers Michael, Sebastian & Bartholomew in Kentucky for sure and seems probable they left Maryland together as well. Michael BURTCHER married Peter BLOOM's sister, Elizabeth BLOOM the Aunt of my Elizabeth BLOOM. It took the federal government more than 10 years to settle their land claims. The community was afraid of losing their highly valued stone masons, they were literally building the first buildings in the territory and the community appealed to the Judge to allow them to stay for the BLOOMs//BURTCHERs stated if they lost their land they were moving West. They got to stay eventually, but Peter BLOOM was actually dead by the time the Congress concluded their consideration of the BLOOM//BURTCHER land claims. They referred to him at the late Peter BLOOM in 1842, and in other documents in 1835 confirmed he was alive at that time which is why I list his d.o.d. as 1835-1842. Hopefully someone out there knows the true date. The BLOOMs, BURTCHERS, & WOOLFORDs were all German families. Peter BLOOM would be my g-g-g-g-grandfather via daughter Elizabeth who married Daniel WOOLFORD. Daniel & Elizabeth had a son named Peter Bloom WOOLFORD in fact though I descend from Daniel & Elizabeth WOOLFORDs son Frederick WOOLFORD who married Louisa ALLEN d/o William ALLEN & Elizabeth "Betsey" STUBBLEFIELD. james wall
I too descend from Peter BLOOM & Rachel MATHENY who are the original St. Geneieve Co., Mo. settlers. Though it does remain possible Peter had more than one wife.. Peter BLOOM b. bef 1772 d, bet. 1835-1842 Saline, St. Geneiveve Co., Missouri m. 28 Sept 1790 Hardin Co., Kentucky to Rachel MATHENY d/o Daniel MATHENY & Isabella COPAS (couple of Shenandoah Co., VIrginia) The Peter you list is actually Peter Jr. He died after 1860. This is verified because I have the Acts of Congress that were passed allowing Peter BLOOM & the BURTCHER brother to keep the land in Missouri upon which they had settled. Their original land grants came from the Intendant of New Orleans and were granted when Missouri was known as Upper Louisiana and still under the control of the french. It is very hard to get a better source than the Congressional Record. Peter BLOOM Sr. was "unlearned & Illiterate" but had superior stone mason skills highly valued in Missouri in the first couple decades of the 1800s. But I would love to trade notes on this BLOOM family. I descend from Peter & Rachel's daughter Elizabeth who married Daniel WOOLFORD. james wall My wife is descended from Peter Bloom who was born about 1787 in Maryland. He moved with his sister Elizabeth to the Ste. Genevieve, MO area in 1797. Elizabeth (born about 1770) was married to Bartholomew Burtcher in Baltimore in 1795. (For a great web site on the "colorful" Burtcher family which has some information on Peter Bloom, see http://www.burtcher.com.) However, I can find absolutely no information on Peter/Elizabeth Bloom's parents. It is certain that the parents did not come to Missouri as Peter and Elizabeth were the first Blooms in MO. I have read through the posts in this forum and believe they may be descendents of Johann Peter Bloom from Germany. Any thoughts/information appreciated.
My Dead end was Frederick WOOLFORD b. ca 1777 [Shenandoah Valley?] Virginia? He died 4 Feb 1838 Of St. Genevieve Co., Missouri. We do not know her name but his wife was born in Pennsylvania according to the 1830 census. Known children include Frederick Jr. m. Nancy PHELPS John m. Jane BLOOM Daniel <i descend from this couple> m. Elizabeth BLOOM Jacob m. Delilah R. LOGAN W. Frederick m. Eliza LOGAN Sarah m. William FISHER The eldest living descendants of this WOOLFORD line all think the line is German (Daniel WOOLFORD had watchmaking and brick kiln / clay pottery making skills).
