Note that often two names were given but the person's name was often shortened to just one; e.g., John Andrew Woods shortened to Andrew Woods or just John Woods. Andrew, named for St. Andrew, was (and is) of course a popular given name in Scotland. I have no information on the first Andrew Woods listed and would like to know the source of the information. The latter Andrew Woods of Hanover, then in Lancaster Co., Penn. was (with wife Sarah) the parent of JOHN WOODS (the 2nd son of ANDREW) who m. Mary Espy and lived in Hanover in Lancaster Co., Penn. who wrote a will in 1765 and proved on 17 Jan. 1770 in Hanover Twp.. John mentions his children: George; ANDREW who died 1761, leaving a wife Jean, a son MATTHEW and daughters SARAH and AGNES [See "Ferguson of Hanover" in Penn. Genealogies]; John; William; Samuel; Sarah; Anna; Margaret; Janet; Marey; Elizabeth; and Martha. Lancaster Co., Penn. will: Written March 6, 1761; Probated May 19, 1761 WOODS, ANDREW. Wife. Jean Woods. Bro.: John Woods. The names and number of children not given. Ex. Jean and John Woods. Hanover Twp.. [Source: Family Tree Maker's Family Archives CD-ROM #209, "Genealogical Records: Penn. Wills, 1682-1834"] vs. the following quotation: "Andrew Woods was born ca 1690 in Blair Park, Ulster, Ire., died Aug. 1756 in Lancaster Co., Pa; his will dated 23 Nov. 1753, proven 30 Aug. 1756. He m. Sarah ____, who was b, in Irel., They may have had 9 children, three of whom were John, and perhaps Jane, and perhaps George. John Woods b. ca 1720 in Ire., d. 1769; m. Mary Espy, b. 1722." The wills are obviously of the same Andrew Woods, but the will dates are different! According to a source this Andrew Woods was the son of "John Andrew Woods, b. 1654 in Scotland; m. in Ireland about 1681 Elizabeth Worsup; they had Elizabeth, b. 1682 and John III (Petrocek) b. before 1685. Also four sons Michael, William, James and ANDREW all of whom came to America." [Source: Rita Espy Kuhbander and William G.
