How is it possible to have a name without a date or place? You must have a date where s/he lived in a certain place. Or family ended up in Montana by 1900? Or stationed in Germany during WWII. You may not know where they were born or where they died, but you probably know some location where they lived, and give a date for that, even an approximate one. Just James WOOD, daughter Elizabeth married SMITH is no help to anyone.
