Hi, This is my first time posting information on this list. I'll apologize in advance for the lack of many dates that I just don't know yet and also for the length of this post. This is compiled information that I've been able to obtain from my husband's Aunt who has been able to put some of her notes together from talking to her Aunt Nancy who is older and refuses to let anyone have family pictures, the family Bible (containing birth and death certificates) and other things in fear that they might get lost. And since some things have been taken from her (like records and pictures), she doesn't really trust people to even look through them. And it doesn't make it any easier that she lives in Virginia and we're in California. From what information I can gather, the WOOD family has always lived in Virginia, and probably came from the West Virginia/Kentucky side of the state. There seems to also be some mention of Tennessee, but I don't know how it's connected. We have been told that the father of Flora JONES (Milton JONES b.1831) was White Irish and Flora's mother (Sylvester MORMON b. 1830) was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. Milton JONES or his family owned one or two slave farms in or near Ruspburg, VA. This was a controversial issue in the family when Milton and Sylvester (a full blooded Cherokee) married. Also, Wyatt Douglas WOOD (who married Flora JONES) is believed to be of Indian/White/and possibly African American descent (would probably be listed as "mulatto"), which probably stirred up more controversy. So, when I ask where the "black" in the family came from (I don't in anyway mean for that to sound bad or negative), there is no definite answer. Nobody knows. Flora JONES b. 1861, they had 10 children: (all last names are WOOD, but for the daughters, I put their married last names) Frank Clifford Dewey Bernard Eunice WILLIAMS Leonora MARSHALL Bertha HENDERSON Mary FOX Zeliou BRADLEY and Wyatt Oliver WOOD (gg grandfather) Wyatt Oliver WOOD b. 5-1-1893 m. Clara Estell BROWN b. 8-4-1894 they had 11 children: (all last names are WOOD) Margie Bell b. 2-27-? Bonnie Estell b. 3-25-? Bernard b. 3-25-? or 1-5-? Mary Virginia b. 10-19-? Glenn Agatha Inez (has 2 more names, but I don't have them) b. 9-13-1935 Frank Huntley b. 12-24-1933 John Perno b. 3-5-? Richard Douglas b. 6-6-1930 Nancy Elizabeth b. 7-8-1928/1929 Wyatt Corinne (female) b. 7-7-1919 and Lillie Letha Ann WOOD (grandmother) b. 5-22-1928 or possibly 5-24-1928 (when she was born, the birth didn't get registered, for some reason, for 2 more days, so she always celebrated it on the 22nd even though it wasn't registered until the 24th) she died 12-25-74.
