    3. Looking for information on the Charles Woods who died 1761 in Augusta County, Virginia. Augusta County Court Records indicate that Samuel McDowell and Richard Woods were appointed as guardians to Charles' children: Samuel, Arthur, Elizabeth, Esther and Charles, Jr. (b ABT 1748). Narrowing the field: (1) I have found reference that the Charles who died in 1761 was married to Elizabeth Campbell, the daughter of a Gilbert Campbell, and I understand Gilbert was the brother of Mary Campbell who married Michael Woods of Blair Park.. (NOTE: Gilbert's Will dated 29 August 1750 in Augusta County, clearly indicates an Elizabeth Woods. She is separate and independent from his daughter Lattice who later married a John Woods...I have John's Will abstract also (1790 - Washington County VA) indicating a spouse Lattice). (2) The above mentioned guardian Samuel McDowell is the son of Magdelena Woods and John McDowell. Magdelena is the daughter of Mary Campbell and Michael Woods of Blair Park. (3) The above mentioned guardian Richard Woods is the son of Michael Woods of Blair Park and Mary Campbell. He married a "Jenny" Unknown. When Boutecourt County was created circa 1760, Richard became it's first High Sheriff. There is a record of Charles' orphan son Arthur working as a deputy sheriff for Richard in 1770. Now, since the Charles Woods who died in 1761 was clearly connected to both Michael Woods' family, as well as the McDowells and Campbells, does anyone have any clues as to who his parents might be? Is it possible that Charles was yet another child of Michael Woods of Blair Park and Mary Campbell? The fact that he still had minor children in 1760 seems to indicate that he was not a contemporary of Michael, but rather of Magdelena and Richard's generation. And if he is not the son of Michael Woods, then whose son might he be? Thanks for any suggestions. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico
