CLINTON, born 1838 in Orange Co., NC, died Feb 28, 1913. They married in Orange Co., Jan 1858 with A. Wilkerson as a witness. Martha was the daughter of Rachel VICKERS and Jesse CLINTON. According to Jesse WOODS' obit in 1935: "He was survived by his wife: Mrs. Ada Woods, 2 sons: W. W. and H. L. Woods, 2 daughters: Mrs. Espie Chambers and Miss Clara Bell Woods, and 1 sister: Mrs. J. W. Pool all of Durham County. Then, in Hubert WOODS' obit in 1948: "He is survived by his wife: Ethel Carrington, daughter: Mrs. Harry Hutchins, 3 sons: Crawford, Vernon, and Herbert all of Durham, 1 sister Eppie Woods of Washington, D. C. and 1 brother William H. Woods of Durham" I think it is not unreasonable to assume (at least until death certs, etc can be gathered) that all Jesse Woods' children from his first marriage -- except William, Hubert and Espie - died prior to 1935. I am curious about Espie (Eppie) emerging in the latter obit as a WOODS again.
