Born in Spartensburg district, South Carolina near Greenville, June l4, l844. Moved from S.C. to Cherokee Co., Ga. near Atlanta and soon after to Blunt Co., Browns Valley, Ala. where his father died Aug l2, l862 and his mother Aug l4, l863. Father's name was M.M. Wood and was born and reared in South Carolina as was his mother. whose maiden name was Martha Ford. Was left an orphan when young and one of ten children. As he was among the older of the children, the little property belonging to the family was willed to young David as trustee for his younger siblings. Married to Mrs. Nancy Slaughter Nov l5, l87l who was born in Jackson Co., Mo. Jan l7, l84l. Childrens names: Charles Alexander Benjamin F. Dancler Mancy O. Lorenzo Mrs. Wood had been married previously to a "Walker" who deserted her with two children, Sidney and Josiah.to rear. Mr. Wood enlisted in the Conf. army under General Forest, from Blunt Co., Al in l863, serving as his escort or body guard. Mr. Wood has 80 acres in section 3, township 29., range 29 of Duval Township, Jasper Co., Mo. There is a good orchard and a good prospect of grain for the coming year.
