    3. SUCCESS STORY Last fall, I made a request for help to identify some photographs including some of old buildings in Clermont Co. OH. I received a number of notes and suggestions and I DID identify a photo of my Great Uncle Carl Erwin WOOD but no luck on the buildings. About two weeks ago I received an e-mail from someone I had not corresponded with in the past. After a short exchange we knew that we were related and this man's father telephoned me. During our conversation, I found out he was Uncle Carl's grandson and my second cousin. He also had commissioned a study of his family history which he graciously sent me. To make a long story short, the papers he sent identified the location of several of the homes and people I had been seeking. The information on the unidentified house was that "1876, George A. Wood (and his wife Lucy TURNER WOOD my great grandparents) purchased a . . . farm one mile east of Felicity, Franklin Township, formerly owned by staunch abolitionist Jonathan P. MYERS. Built before the Civil War, the Myers brick and frame house served as a 'safe house' link in the underground railway for escaping slaves on their way to freedom. The bricks in the house were made from the clay beds on the farm and burned in Myers' own kiln. The secret cellar hideaway so carefully built under the house was accessible only through a small trap door in the kitchen, concealed underneath Mrs. Myers' flour barrel. Ventilation for the secret "dungeon" room was cunningly provided by laying the brick walls in a zigzag pattern, so that air was admitted, but no light. George A. Wood and his wife sold this farm in 1891 shortly before the family moved to Science Hill, KY." If any of you from the Clermont Co. area are familiar with this home, please let me know. I may be headed up there again this October. The photos are at http://members.tripod.com/walter_wood/waltsweb/clerphoto.htm Another matter cleared up was that there were some 30 years missing from my grandfather's history 1880 - 1910 and that has been cleared up. There was also some information new to me on George A. WOOD's parents, Dr. David WOOD and Mary DAY. I will post this to my web as I get time over the next month. http://members.tripod.com/walter_wood/ I am still looking for information on Lucy TURNER WOOD's father Ezekiel Edwin TURNER. Walter Wood walter_wood@csi.com Please forgive multiple postings to the WOOD & WOODS list.
