    1. [WOODS-L] SAMUEL WOOD - l737 to l800.
    2. This if from some research material I found at our local gnealogy library, and prepared by one of the members. He has printed a book and submitted it for reference material. Samuel Wood, son of William and Mary Wood, born l737 in Leicestershire, England emigrated to Virginia and died l800 in Washington Co., Tenn. William was a woolcomber by trade. Owned a woolen manufactory in Borough of Leicester. His wife was the former Mary Coleman and they were members of All Saints Parish Church. William served as a sexton. Eight of their children were christened in this church. William made his Last Will & Testament on l April l774, leaving his property to his wife. William died 9 Feb l780 and Mary died Nov. l785. Both are buried in the P{rotestant Dissenters Buring Groung in Leicester. Children: William Wood, Jr. christened 6 Dec l732. reported to be the oldest child. William stayed in England, never married and his brothers in America should have been his heirs. The brothers participated in the American Revolution against the homeland; the British government confiscated the estate for a term of l00 years. Whether the children who stayed in England ever inherited from William is not known. The brothers in America were unable to claim their legacy at the end of the l00 yr. term. Thomas Wood. was apprenticed l April l743 to Thomas Cave of Leicester to learn the art of framework knitting. He was the eldest of the three brothers who came to Virginia. He was a private during the Reav. War. serving in the Seventh Virginia Regiment. After the war, he went to Kentucky near Lexington and became a farmer. Katherine Wood was christened on l3 Sept l734. Nothing more known. John Wood born l735 and christened on 28 June l736. Apprenticed on 24 June l748 to Edw. Williams of Leicester to learn the trade of a woolcomber. Came to Va. with Thomas and Samuel in l755. In l764 he married Maiden Seay, dau of Jame Seay of Amelia Co., Va. They had l2 children. About l784 they moved with their youngest children (Seaneth, John, Coleman, James, Isam, Cynthia, Annie and Elizabeth to Spartansburg, S.C. Four older sons remained in Va. John was a millwright and carpenter. He died about l8l7 and is burieon the family farm near Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Maiden (Seay) Wood died after l840 in Missouri. Samuel Wood, forefather of the author. l737 Leicestershire Eng. to l800 Wash. Co. Tenn. (See children listed below) George Wood, christened l7 May l740 in All Saints Parish Church. Nothing further known. Ruth Wood, christined in All Saints Parish Church on l Sept l748. NFI. Isaac Wood, christened in All Saints Parish Church 23 Dec. l75l.
