I'm looking for ARSULA Wood, b. 1836-1840, loca unkn. She is my gggrandmother. Family history has it that her husband, Willis Edwin BROOKINS, went from the family home in Dale Co, AL, to Georgia, met and married Arsula. Their first daughter, TERRELL LEOLA was supposedly born in Cairo, GA, 1875. She's said to have been Indian - most say Cherokee, one aunt says Choctaw, and was previously married to a "GREEN" who died in the civil war. She is said to have stared down a regiment of Yankees as they passed her home, during the war, so she must have lived in the mid-GA area, at least, I believe. Her parents are said to be YANCY and MANDIE/MANDY WOOD. With my luck, these are nicknames which were used instead of given names, a common practice in my family, I've found. Arsula had three children: TERRELL LEOLA, FLORENCE MELISSA, b. 1877, and CHARLIE E., b. 1879. None of the names, with the possible exception of the "E" in Charlie's, has any relation to names in Willis Edwin's family. If anyone has anything, I'd be very grateful to hear. Please e-mail me!
