Greetings: I have given up on determining the ancestry of my "stuck" Elbert County, Georgia WOODS, person for the time being, but thought some of you might be interested in the following bibliography which appeared in the back of a manuscript I found at the Cobb County, Georgia Public Library's genealogy room. Many of the sources are from the 1800's; it's my guess (and it's only a guess) that this manuscript is a typewritten transcription of an earlier work which could have been done anywhere between 1870 and 1950. The writer's style is very formal, and typical to that period. I will type the bibliography of the work below exactly as it appears in the manuscript, with no eliminations, abbreviations, or changes. The manuscript is on copy paper, and is in a buff-colored report cover. The date stamped on it as to when it was placed in the library is June 6, 1990. The title is: THE NAME AND FAMILY OF WOOD OR WOODS Compiled by the Media Research Bureau, Washington, DC (beginning) Lower. Patronimica Britannica. 1860. Bardsley. English and Welsh Surnames. 1901. The manuscript itself makes for interesting reading, and I have a complete copy. I'm willing to do lookups, although please note that the names noted in its sixteen single-spaced pages date are those of almost two hundred years ago. It didn't provide any trails for me to follow, so to speak. That's it for this post. Stay out of this heat, ya'll. Best regards, Carla W. Woods (great-great-granddaughter-in-law of Samuel Wood(s) of Elbert, Newton, and Fulton County, Georgia, and we SURE do welcome all information as to his forebearers!)
