    1. [WOODS-L] Sorting out William WOODS, Orange Co, NC, 1810-1830
    2. Fay Clark
    3. Has anyone nailed down the several William WOODS enumerated in the 1810, 1820 & 1830 Orange County, NC, census records? There are 3 in the 1810 census; I am particularly interested in the one enumerated on page 113, six households from Alex Patton: Wm Woods 2 3 0 1 0 2 0 0 1 0 The other two Williams I do not have a breakdown of their households. I am assuming that one of the three must be William & Eleanor Lindsey Woods, but not likely the one shown above since he was 26-45 yrs old and William (Eleanor) Woods would have been approx. 51 yrs old. William WOODS 1759 - 1830 .+Eleanor LINDSEY 1759 - 1844 .....2 Mary WOODS 1782 - WFT Est. 1811-1876 .........+William CROSSETT WFT Est. 1759-1786 - WFT Est. 1811-1872 .....2 Anne WOODS 1785 - WFT Est. 1786-1879 .....2 Elizabeth WOODS 1788 - 1860 .........+Thomas TAYLOR WFT Est. 1768-1796 - WFT Est. 1821-1881 .....2 Martha WOODS 1790 - 1836 .........+Joseph ALLISON WFT Est. 1765-1791 - WFT Est. 1815-1878 .....2 Margaret WOODS 1793 - WFT Est. 1807-1887 .........+John SMITH WFT Est. 1776-1796 - WFT Est. 1810-1882 .....2 John Lindsey WOODS 1796 - 1874 .........+Martha White BALDRIDGE WFT Est. 1776-1802 - WFT Est. 1821-1891 .....*2nd Wife of John Lindsey Woods: .........+Margaret Allison WOODS 1810 - 1889 .....2 Ellen WOODS 1803 - 1878 .........+Robert REDDING WFT Est. 1786-1806 - WFT Est. 1820-1892 Likewise, these three marriage bonds may represent the three households enumerated: Woods, William ---, Linsey 1 Aug 1781 Woods, William Desern, Elizabeth 6 Aug 1803 Woods, William Faucett, Rachel 9 Dec 1809 The 1820 Census enumerates only two William Woods; Since William Woods who married Eleanor Lindsey did not die until 2 Nov 1830, I am presuming he is one of the two. The 1830 Census enumerates a William WOODS, SR and a William WOODS, JR. Again, since William Woods b. 1759 did not die until Nov 1830, I am guessing he may be the William Woods Sr. That would appear to mean William WOODS, Jr. enumerated in that census is very likely his son, UNLESS William b. 1759 did die before the census and this William Jr. is a son of one of the other two William WOODS who were married between 1800 - 1810. With all this in mind, is it possible that William Woods and Eleanor Lindsey had a son named William Jr.? Is it possible that William & Eleanor had children after Ellen b. 1803? Can anyone help me sort out which William is which in these census records? Does anyone know who the William is that died or migrated out of the county before 1820? Is it possible that the Wm Woods enumerated on p 113 of the 1810 census is William and Elizabeth Desern Woods? They appear to be the most likely candidates as parents of my Nancy Woods b. 1806 and possibly the mysterious William Jr. who appears in the 1830 census. Can anyone furnish me with a breakdown of the family groups? Any help will be greatly appreciated-- Fay Clark
