Looking for siblings of my ancestor who was orphaned about 1880. Until this week we believed he had been orphaned in Wisconsin or Missouri, but now believe the family was located elsewhere at the time of the parents death. If you have Wood or Woods ancestors who were orphaned around 1880? please contact me. Here is what I know about my ancestor Herbert LeRoy Wood/Woods: born in Appleton, Wisconsin in 1866 or 1867. Nor birth record exists. His parents are believed to be a Harrison LeRoy Wood/Woods from either Wisconsin or more likely NY. I can find a LeRoy H. Wood/Woods age 17 living with a Wickman family and working on a farm in 1860 in Appleton. This might possibly be Herbert's father prior to marrying Herbert's mother and having a family. This LeRoy H. Wood was from NY. No record of a marriage between the parents exists. By 1880 Herbert was age 14, and living alone somewhere??? I know by 1886 he was in Missouri with a wife and child. I can not find Herbert on ! any census anywhere in the U.S. until 1900 when he was working in Arkansas-Cleveland Co. and living with his wife and child. The census states that Herbert's father was born in NY and his mother in Maine, however in 1944 when Herbert died his death certificate said the father was from Wisconsin and the mother from RI. I am hoping to locate people with Wood/Woods ancestry whose ancestors may have been orphaned in 1880. Perhaps if I can find someone else with a similar orphan story, I might locate the whereabouts of my Wood/Woods family between 1867 and 1880. Please contact lequia@elite.net if you have any suggestions or think you might somehow connect. Any clues at all would be most apprectiated. Thanks.
