Can anyone tell me where to begin looking for an ancestor if I know he was born in New York- but don't know his parents names? Do I have to look through the entire census for all Wood families? Is there a better idea? Are there any CD's with census records from 1840 or 50 NY? Are there any CD's with vital records from NY during the mid 1800's? How have other people been successful in searching New York? It is so big!!! I don't know where or how to start there- and it looks like my search has taken me there. Any help from anyone is greatly appreciated!
