Thanks to the assistance and advice of our RootsWeb family, it appears from census data that the parents of JOHN SAMUEL WOODS may have been: Tillman and Sarah WOODS The 1850 census for Henry County, Tennesse, 7th Civil District, page 302, show the following: Dwelling 146, Family #148 Tillman Woods age 47 m farmer North Carolina Sarah Woods age 48 f " Eliza Woods age 25 f " Martha Woods age 24 f " William Woods age 22 m " " Nancy Woods age 21 f " George Woods age 20 m " John Woods age 18 m Tennessee Caroline Woods age 15 f Tennessee Margaret Woods age 13 f Tennessee Marion Woods age 9 f Tennessee Nancy Woods age 61 f North Carolina Based on the above census data, the following may be true: Tillman Woods, b. about 1803, North Carolina Sarah Woods (his wife), b. about 1802, North Carolina Eliza Woods, b. about 1825, North Carolina Martha (Hastings) Woods (believed to be the wife of William Woods), b. about 1826 William Woods, b. about 1828, North Carolina Nancy Woods, b. about 1829, North Carolina George Woods, b. about 1830, North Carolina *** Family moves to Tennessee *** John Woods, b. about 1832, Tennessee Caroline Woods, b. about 1835, Tennessee Margaret Woods, b. about 1837, Tennessee Marion Woods, b. about 1841, Tennessee Nancy Woods (probably the mother of Tillman Woods), b. about 1789, North Carolina It is believed that Martha "Paddy" (Hastings) Woods and William L. Woods were married 9 Jul 1848 in Henry County, Tennessee. It is believed that John (Samuel) Woods and Martha Ann Hastings were m arried 11 Aug 1853 in Henry County, Tennessee, resided there for a while, and moved to southern Illinois by 1860. The father of Tillman Woods and husband of Nancy Woods was probably born in North Carolina and died prior to the 1850 census in Tennessee.
