    2. J. L. WOOD
    3. Hello Helen, Don't know if there could be a connection with my WOOD(S) but I would be interested in info. on your WOOD/WOODS line. I'm searching for the parents and/or siblings of my g-grandfather, Rev./Dr. Jesse Lee (Leonidas?) WOOD. Jesse was b. 1839 in Carroll (now Montgomery) Co., MS; however, he doesn't show up until age 21 on the 1860 Census in rural Dyer Co., TN. His 1st wife is known only as "M" WOOD on the 1860 Census in TN when she was age 20 years. A child, Anna, was born that same year. The 1st wife "M" reportedly died in TN during the War and nothing more is known of her. I did receive info. re: a marriage record for a J. WOOD and a Margaret CADELL m. 9 Mar 1860 in Carroll, Co. MS which could possibly be Jesse's 1st marriage if they immediately left to go to TN before the Census was taken later that same year. I believe Jesse's family may have been farming in MS at the time he was born. He spent most of his adult life, however, in TN. Without the names of his parents or siblings, I don't have much to go on. The only thing I know about Jesse's family is that although he enlisted in the 7th Tennessee Cavalry Reg., U.S. Army, he stated that he had three brothers (names unknown) that fought for the CSA in the War. His parents were reportedly also born in MS and his father's name may possibly have been Jesse also and his mother's name possibly Mary BRAZEAL(sp?). In addition to BRAZEAL/BREAZEALE(sp?), the Surnames ESSARY and/or AYLMORE/ELMORE(sp?) may also possibly be in our ancestry. Jesse may also have been part Indian (possibly Choctaw or Chickasaw) according to family hearsay and by appearance but probably no more than 1/4. Hope we can find a connection. Thanks! James Atlas Johnson married Mariah Louisa WOODS, daughter of Andrew WOODS and Hulda Caperton on 13 April 1852 in Carroll Co., MS. I have quite a bit of information on the WOODS family starting with Michael WOODS who came down from PA to VA. with his family, thru a gap in the Blue Ridge Mtns. (later called WOODS Gap). He settled in an area now called Ivy, VA., near Charlottesville, VA. This family is also connected to the Caperton family. Issue: Wm.
