Beaufort Gazette March 12, 1936 Mr. J. N. Woods - Buried Sunday Father of Jasper Woods, Several Other Children Live in This Section Fifteen children, twelve sons, three daughters and his widow, all of whom were at his bedside when he passed away, survive Mr. Josua Nathaniel Woods, who died at his home on Bethel Plantation, near Ridgeland; last Friday night at 8:10 o'clock after a long illness. Mr. Woods was born in Hampton County, S.C., January 21, 1862. He was one of the most prominent citizens of his community, and vitally interested in religious and civic affairs. He was one of the leading farmers of this section up to the time his health failed him a few years ago. His widow, Mrs. Rosa Bennett Woods, twelve sons, three daughters, six brothers, forty-seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren survive Mr. Woods. Five of his brothers, in addition to the others of the family were with Mr. Woods when he died. Mr. Woods' daughters are Mrs. P. ? Sloman, of Whitehall, SC; Mrs. ? C. Walker, of Alcolu, SC, Miss Vera Woods, of Ridgeland. His sons are: Charles Woods of Savannah, GA J. B. Woods - Ridgeland H. P. Woods - Ridgeland H. L. Woods - Ridgeland J. R. Woods - Ridgeland L. O. Woods - Ridgeland D. D. Woods - Ridgeland J. H. Woods - Frogmore, SC H. E. Woods - Switzerland, SC P. P. Woods - Winter Haven, FLA The funeral services was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Ridgeland Baptist Church, church of which Mr. Woods was a deacon. The Rev. Otis H. McKinnon, a former pastor of the church, and the Rev. John B. Wilder, D.D., the pastor of Calvary Baptist Temple conducted the services. Interment was made in Black Creek Cemetery in Colleton County. The deacons of the Ridgeland Baptist Church acted as pallbearers. Mr. Woods was a deacon in the Beaufort Baptist Church for about 6 years, and has many friends here who regretted to learn of his death.
