    1. [WOODS-L] Woods family in Caribbean
    2. There was a prominent Woods family in St. Croix, Danish West Indies (now US Virgin Islands) in the late 1700s, through 1800s. They were connected somehow with Philadelphia, where William Henry Woods died in 1864. His brother was Edward Woods, born abt. 1797. Both were sons of Charles Woods, b. in America abt. 1750, a physician who took citizenship papers in St. Croix in 1781, during the Revolution. I have not been able to trace Charles's heritage back beyond the 1781 date; his birth date is an estimate based on his age (60) at death in 1810. He is buried in St. Croix. There is some family lore that says the family were originally British, but others in the family say that's the "myth" the family wished you to believe. Hmmmmm.....at any rate, Belize would be in the same sea-going sphere as the Caribbean islands, so there's a chance there's a connection. Do you have any Charleses in your line? Thanks. Laura in NC
