    3. I have seen a number of messages lately through this list that mentions Woods and Cherokees in the same sentence. I'm pretty new to this list and was unaware of the Woods/Cherokee connection. I've been researching A Martha Elizabeth Woods that married James Rolls in Barry Co. Mo. 1838. The family is fairly certain that she was of Cheorkee descent. She lists her birth place as Ky circa 1820. She also lists her father as Irish and her mother as Ky born. Were there many Cherokee Woods in Ky in the early 1800's? Are there any good sources for invistigating along these lines? I thought I had the parents of Martha Elizabeth Woods .. that being Archibald Woods that married Frances "Fanny" Hill in Madison Co. Ky. 1806. I have spent my time trying to find the Cherokee on the Hill side.. perhaps I have the wrong parents and the Cherokee is on the Woods side. Any help or suggestions as to where to look would be greatly appreciated. Rick Roles

    3. Hi fellow researchers, since it has been a long time since I have posted this and we are on Woods and Cherokees I have this to ask. My wife is a WOODS decendent from a Samuel B. WOODS b. 1838 Tenn. and d. 1906 Arkansas. We have a copy of a letter written in the late 1890's, we think. In it he give his linage as follows: Father: Samuel WOODS Mother Matilda Clepper grandfather Martin WOODS grandmother Betsy VANN G-Grandfather Joe WOODS G-Grandmother Polly Clyne The letter states that Betsy VANN and Polly CLYNE were both Cherokee Indians from the Sequatchee Valley, Tenn. With this letter we have spent more than 8 years trying to find them with no luck. This is just one proof of the WOODS and Cherokee connection. If any of you have any connection or information on any of these people please contact me. Thanks. Roland Hall
