    1. [WOODS-L] [WOODS] Woods Genealogy Transcription
    2. I am in possesion of a WOODS Family Genealogy compiled and written in the 1920's by Emmett M. Wickham Attorney, of Delaware , Ohio. As I have WebTv and no scanner, I will have to do this the old-fashioned way ( I have to type it) so I will post it in several parts....Hope this helps someone.... THE WOODS FAMILY JOSEPH WOODS "We should be proud of our ancestory, Joesph Woods. He was one of the immortals who fought at Lexington and Bunker Hill. On the night of April 18, 1775, when Paul Revere made his famous ride described in the poem by Longfellow, and gave the alarm to the Minute Men near Concord and Lexington, our ancestor marched from Bolton to Lexington and the next day, April 19, particiated in the battle in which the first blood was shed for American Independence. What a glorious privelege ! Then, two months later, June 17th, came the Battle of Bunker Hill. Too great a measure of honor cannot be bestowed on the patriots engaged in that conflit--every man of them a hero! I would rather be able to point to such an ancestor as Joseph Woods, a hero of Lexington and Concord, and Bunker Hill, than to any man who ever wore a crown. I think it would be neat and proper that we, the descendents of Joseph Woods and Joseph Welch, should forever hold June 17th, the anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill, as a holiday. We should provide ourselves with a good history of the United States and read about that Battle and, while we read, think of those two of our ancestors, thus keeping in memory their services to their country and their personal merits. About all the knowledge we have of Joseph Woods I have obtained from a communication received from the Pension Office in Washington , in reply to my inquiry into the military record of our ancestor and what is known of his service in the Revolutionary War as disclosed by a work published in the State of Massachusetts.
