    3. Does anyone have an ILLA WOOD/WOODS born between 1868 and 1881? I don't know the location. She is one of Bert Wood's lost orphaned siblings. I don't know who she married, but THINK she was raised by a family in either Arkansas, Missouri, or Oklahoma. She could have been raised elsewhere however so I'll take a look at any ILLA that you might have. Thanks. I have lots of info to share !!! Sheri at lequia@elite.net

While searching the internet for answers, I became aware that many of your customers are having trouble getting their Epson printers to function properly with Windows ME. I understand that you have no control over Microsoft and their products . . . . Why is this a given? Who does control Microsoft if not the consumer? I personally don't use MS products because they are expensive, unreliable, and MS is constantly changing data formats of new products to be incompatible with their old ones, let alone products from other vendors. There are alternatives such as the Linux OS. The people who write applications for Linux do not hide or unnecessarily change their data formats. I encourage people to take a look at alternatives to MS. Yes, there are currently not as many applications for Linux as for Windows, but until MS feels the pressure from consumers they won't change. As far as reliability goes, as people learn about alternatives to Windows such as the Linux OS they find that computer hardware is incredibly reliable. The only time my computer gets rebooted is when the power goes out (which, BTW is about every 50 days for some reason). I know this list is not for OS advocacy, etc. But when I saw this message from Dream Catcher, I had to speak up. Now, since I am writing to the Woods list I will ask whether anyone has information on Rev. James Woods, b. 16 Jan 1807, Center twp, Washington (or Greene?), Pennsylvania. He had a son, Philip Axtell Woods, b. Abt 1829, who also became a Baptist minister. I would like to find the parents of James. Thanks. -- Paul R. 3. Donald - I'm not sure why this type of question is posted on the genealogy forum...or for that matter why you were replacing cables or any other hardware in order to fix a driver problem. Anyway. every printer I've every owned comes with an instruction book. In the back is the tech support number. I suggest you call them. I did a web search on an Apex L-1000, including the Epson website (OK, I was curious since I'd never heard of it and have always bought Epson or HP printers), and apparently it's a pretty rare bird since all searches came up with zero responses. ----- Original Message ----- From: "DREAM CATCHER" <dddmp@earthlink.net> To: <WOODS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2001 10:16 AM Subject: [WOODS-L] Epson / Windows ME > When I upgraded my computer system to Windows ME, my Epson printer failed to print properly. I understand that you have no control over Microsoft and their products, never the less I would appreciate a driver that will resolve this conflict. I have returned all the new Epsons that I have bought and will await your response. I now only have the APEX L-1000. 3. My GGrandfather was Ephraim Woods b. 1856 in Hocking County, Ohio. He married Margaret M or Mary Margaret Kerns in Hocking County, Ohio 12/29/1854. Children found so far are Effie 1866, Nancy Jane 1867, William b. 6/29/70, John b. 3/30/1887 all born in Hocking County, Ohio. Effie F. Woods was married (1879) to Allen VanBuren Griffin (b. 1856 Perry County, Ohio) in Hocking County, Ohio. Their Children were Herbert b. 3/30/1887 married to Gladys Willis, Jennie b. 7/17/1893 married to Alva Hite, Carel b. 1901 died at three years old in a fire, Minnie 6/30/1903 married to Freddie Glenmore Horn, Jr. All were married in Hocking County, Ohio. I am looking for the rest of Ephraim and Margaret Kerns Woods' children. Also the parents of Ephraim Woods and Margaret Kerns. Ephraim was born in Ohio. Margaret?. I have more Woods and Wood names in the Hocking and Perry County, Ohio area that I would be glad to share. Also, if anyone needs a look up in this area - I'm always scrounging around in old records. Let me know and I'll do what I can. I would think there were more children of Ephraim and Margaret because they were married in 1854. Birth records weren't recorded until 1867. My Grandmother was born in 1866 and another Woods and I were able to connect Effie and Nancy Jane as sisters because of common parents. The other two were look ups by me from old birth records. All have been verified. Thank you. Sherole Logan, Ohio

    1. [WOODS-L] THANKS !!!
    2. Lequia
    3. I neglected to say THANKS to all of you on the list who have helped in my search to solve my orphan mystery. Many of you contacted me privately to offer encouragement and ideas of where to go next. One person caught me on a bad day and I was in a bad mood and venting not just about my terrible trouble in solving my mystery, but the kids, and a bad hair perm. She offered encouragement- and laughed with me about it. You people are great! Of course the search goes on now to find more info on the grandparents of my orphans. I even suspect that the father to my orphan was possibly an orphan himself. So you will be hearing more from me- but I wanted to say Thanks before I go on. 1. [WOODS-L] Wood Family Magazine
    2. Lequia
    3. There was some talk last summer on this list about the Wood Family Magazine that had been published for many years and was no longer being published. It was discussed what could be done to make the old issues of the magazine available for research by all. I remember discussion about the possibility of the articles being put onto a CD for purchase. Does anyone know how that is coming along? Is this happening? I'd like an update. Sheri at lequia@elite.net

    1. [WOODS-L] Found All Five ORPHANS- anybody a descendant of them?
    2. Lequia
    3. I DID IT! Im dancing around my kitchen - so excited! I found information on all of the siblings of Herbert LeRoy Wood- Hooray! The family was living in or near Cleburne county AR. The parents died around 1882 or 1883. The children were all divided up. Their names were: Illa Wood, Edna Wood, and twins- DeForrest and DeEtta Wood. The twins were born September 1882 in AR. There are two stories on where the father died. The first story is that the father took the mother's body to TX to be buried and on the way back he died and was buried somewhere along the way. The second story is that the father was on his way to Okalahoma (possibly to buy land there). He was carrying a lot of money. He got sick on the train and had to be taken off in Gerdon Arkansas. He died there and was buried. Anybody that connects to any of these people- please contact Sheri LeQuia at lequia@elite.net Look forward to hearing from you!

    1. [WOODS-L] Found two of my Orphans!
    2. Lequia
    3. I'm so excited ! I have now positively identified two of my Wood orphans. They are the youngest siblings to my ancestor Herbert LeRoy Wood/Woods who is the oldest son of LeRoy Harrison Wood/Woods and Ellen DeForrest/Forrest. The youngest two were twins- DeEtta and Dee (short for ???) Wood born 1881 or 1882 Sept. possibly in or near Shiloah, or Shiloh, Cleburne county Arkansas. The children were orphaned in or near 1882 and then divided up. I am still on the lookout for three more orphans. I haven't ruled out the possibility that Amanda Charlotte Wood and her brother Thomas might be two of the siblings. More info is needed to prove this. Just wanted to share the Good NEWS!

    1. [WOODS-L] Orphaned Wood/Woods anywhere
    2. Lequia
    3. I'm looking for the lost siblings to my orphan Herbert/Bert Wood who was the oldest child of LeRoy Wood and Ellen Forrest/DeForrest. The youngest children were twins; Dee Etta Wood and ?unknown male twin. If you have a Wood ancestor born between 1868 and 1882 anywhere- it could be one of the lost Wood orphans. I believe that some of them ended up in Arkansas and Missouri - at least one in Oklahoma. Family Characteristics include short stature - 5 ft. 5" to 5 ft. 8". Would like to identify the lost male twin. He lived in Oklahoma sometime after 1970 I think. He would have been very elderly by this time since he was born in 1882. Probably died in Oklahoma. Birthdate would be September 1882- birthplace possibly Arkansas, but not necessarily. These children may or may not have ridden the orphan trains. Please contact Sheri LeQuia at lequia@elite.net I'm going to put this family together again ! Grandma was raised by this orphan and it is her life goal to see this mystery solved.
