    3. I am so sorry,I was infected with a virus from I believe the Moore list.It has now spread to the Matthews and Woods list. Please go to http://www.grisoft.com to download a free virus detection program. I have spent all morning downloading, installing and running this program. I didn't know I had it until I began getting emails to myself from myself. I am sorry for the problems this has caused. I did not knowingly do this. All I can do is try to fix it now. Thank you to all of the people that have tried to let me know while I was downloading the program. Emily Adams Matthews

    1. [WOODS-L] north aston and deddington, oxon
    2. Is anyone on-list researching the family of Joseph Woods, born 1812 in North Aston, Oxon? In middle age he settled in the nearby town of Deddington, and remained there until at least 1891. He was well respected as a traditional musician over a wide area of north Oxfordshire. I know he was still living in September 1894, but find no evidence of death or burial. Already aged 82 at that date, and 'living on parish pay', he was presumably on his last legs. Can anyone help? Or are there any descendants out there? Keith Chandler Oxfordshire

    3. Many thanks to you folks on the WOODS list that have responded to my query about ANDREW WOODS "said son" of ARCHIBALD WOODS & ISABELLA GOSS/GASS. It looks like the dispute on this unproven line from 1943/1945 has not been solved. Darn. I will pout for a short bit, and then get on with searching the land records mentioned in my previous post. Again, thankyou & bless you for all of your generous sharing! Pat in Oregon pat@skyride.net

    3. My daughter and I have been desperately trying to put together my WOOD/s side of the family and continually run into brick walls...I am hoping someone can help me with this family as I am hoping this is the connection I need to get past my Grandfather.... My Grandfather Edward James WOOD/s born 1901 in Parry Sound, Ontario. Son of George WOOD/s born in Ontario. My Grandfather resided on Gowan Avenue in Todmorden (Toronto) when he was married in 1924 at the Presbyterian Church in Toronto. My daughter who is LDS just called me from the Family History Centre in Lethbridge. She has been pouring through Microfilms and thinks she has found my GGrandfather George WOOD/s mother and sibs. In the East York Census for 1891 there is a WOOD/s family who lived 1 block from Gowan Avenue where my Grandfather lived. Mary WOOD/s (this is her married name, NOT her maiden name) of German decent, Presbyterian. Her husband is deceased and he was born in Ontario. I do not know his name. Mary is widowed and has the following children according to the 1891 East York, Toronto Census. William - 23 yrs - born in the USA Hattie - 21 yrs - born in the USA George - 17 yrs old Robert - 15 yrs Henry - 14 yrs 2 other children who are not at home at this time. I do not know if all the children were born in USA or where as my daughter did not tell me. This is the first hope I have had in a long time....If anyone has any information on this family I would dearly love to hear from you....Thank you kindly.....Chris. 3. Hello Rusty, I may not have any specific info. that will definitely help you but I do have a list of all the WOOD/WOODS in MS extracted from the 1840 & 1850 Census Index (Family TreeMaker CDs #316 & #317). Let me know if want me to it to you. In the 1840 Census there are two George WOODs listed in Jefferson Co. and a George W. WOODS listed in Marshall Co.. In the 1850 Census there are two George WOODs listed (1-Lauderdale Co.; 1-Panola Co.) and a G. A. V. WOODS in Yalobusha Co. Good luck in your search! Regards, Jesse Lee "Jack" WOOD,III Powell OH, (Formerly from TX) jwood1@mindspring.com P.S. BTW, I have been trying to find the parents/siblings of my great- grandfather, Rev./Dr. Jesse Lee (Leonidas?) WOOD who was b. 1839 in Duck Hill, Carroll (now Montgomery) Co., MS. He doesn't show up anywhere until age 21 yrs. in the 1860 Census in rural Dyer Co., TN. Nothing is known about how or when Jesse left MS and went to TN or about his parents/siblings other than he claimed to have had three brothers (names unknown) that fought for the CSA in the War although Jesse enlisted in the 7th Tennessee Cavalry Reg., US Army. Jesse's parents were reportedly also born in MS(?). His father's name may possibly have been Jesse also and his mother's name possibly Mary BRAZEAL(sp?). According to family hearsay and by appearance, Jesse is also reported to have been part Indian (probably Choctaw or Chickasaw from his mother) but Jesse was probably no more than 1/4. Thank you for any help you can give me. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rusty Woods wrote: Hi, I am trying to find info on a George Washington Wood(s) that was possibly born around Choctaw or Winston County, MSaround early to mid 1800's. Hello Woods Listers, I am still trying to find the answer to my question regarding Andrew Woods - 'said son' of ARCHIBALD WOODS & ISABELLA GOSS/GASS? In October 1943 the Virginia Historical Magazine published an article "Archibald Woods of Albemarle County" - time period 1783, 1787 and 24 Sept 1799. Pages 375 - 376, in a rough extract would be that a certain Archibald Woods died w/o a will in Dec. 1783 in Botetourt (Roanoke) Co., Virginia. (I have this & it is an inventory - no children named) JAMES WOODS of Fayette Co., KY (Is he a proven son? Grandson? Brother? Relative?) gave power of attny. to ANDREW WOODS for land in Botetourt 1787... Is this the same land ARCHIBALD owned? A deed 24 Sept 1799 - land in Botetourt - deed 'acknowledged' in Mercer Co., KY. Is this also ARCHIBALD's land? In 1943 and 1945 this 'said' line was still suspect & the land records had not been researched by the current Woods family experts. Folks, in the 50 some years that have elapsed has anyone in the Woods family found out if ANDREW WOODS is actually the son of ARCHIBALD & ISABELLA? If the answer is yes, then please share the documentation & make me a really happy camper - if no, then I need to be off searching the land records. Does anyone know? This could save the "said son"'s descendants untold hours or years of research.
