    1. Re: [WOODS-L] Michael Marion Woods f/o Green Woods TN>TX
    2. James P. Robinson III
    3. I think I may have managed to mess up my previous message. Looking back through my notes, I am not sure whether this is Michael Marion Woods or not. The information that has been suggested to me is that Green Woods was b. in Washington Co., TN on 13 August 1783, d. in Harrison Co., TX in 1842, m. 28 Dec. 1802 to a Mary Clarke, and that he was the eleventh child of a Michael Woods (b. November 10, 1735, prob. in Albemarle Co., Va.; d. 1808, presumably in TN), by his second wife Margaret Trimble (b. 27 Aug 1740; m. 24 Dec 1767; d. 13 Sep 1801). This Michael is stated to be the son of Archibald Woods (1706 - 1768) and Isabella Goss (1716/17 - 1766). Archibald being the son of another Michael Woods (b. c. 1684; d. 1762) and Mary Campbell. My real question though goes to the identification of the Green Woods b. in Washington Co., TN of Michael and Margaret with the Green Woods who died in Harrison Co., TX in 1842. Can anyone shed any light on the appropriateness of this identification? Jim Robinson P.S.--Any information on other parts of this family is, of course, very welcome. 2. J. L. WOOD
    3. Hello Ann, I'm not sure if I have contacted you before. I'm also researching a WOOD family line that begins in Devon. I have been trying to trace a WOOD family line that begins with William Wood born ca. 1578 in Tiverton, Devon, ENG.and have compiled a large database (14 Generations) of info. that extends to the current generation. (I can send a Descendant's Outline of the file if you like.) Based on Family hearsay, I believe my main WOOD line in the USA is related to this WOOD line although I have not yet been able to identify the immigrant ancestor in order to make that final direct connection. It is believed my g-grandfather, Rev./Dr. Jesse Lee(Leonidas?) WOOD b. 1839 in MS, USA and d. 18 Oct 1896 in Ardmore, I.T. (OK), USA is related to this WOOD Line and that his father (name unkn.) probably emigrated to the USA 1750-1800 and may possibly be a descendant of William WOOD b. 22 Sep 1738 in Tiverton, Devon, ENG. William WOOD of Tiverton, Devon, ENG. (b. ca. 1578, d. ca. 1611) was a serge manufacturer. Several descendants were very successful and became quite well known. Among them was Sir Matthew WOOD b. 1768, d. 1843. Sir Matthew WOOD had three sons: Rev/Sir John Page WOOD who was the father of Field Marshall Sir Henry Evelyn WOOD, Sir William Page WOOD (Lord Chancellor of London-1868, a.k.a. Baron Hatherley) and Western WOOD. Sir Matthew WOOD served as Sheriff of London (1815), Lord Mayor of London (1816) and was elected a member of Parliament each year from 1817 until his death in 1843. Robert Wright WOOD's eldest son was Dr. William Burton Persse WOOD who was the father of Sir Henry "Harry" Trueman WOOD and Annie WOOD BESANT. Katharine (Katie or Kitty) O'SHEA nee WOOD, later the wife of Charles Stewart PARNELL, was a daughter of Sir John Page WOOD and sister of Sir Evelyn WOOD. Please let me know if you think we might have a connection or if you want me to send you the detail on my WOOD Family data. Thanks! Look forward to hearing from you. 1. RE: [WOODS-L] 1940 National Registration Record
    2. Michael Bogues
    3. Someone has been telling you stories. The death records for 1978 haven't been seen to archives. 1869-1929 are at the Ontario Archives http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/english/interloan/vsmain.htmailable 1930 to present can only be obained from the Registrar of Ontario Office of the Registrar General PO Box 4600, 189 Red River Road THUNDER BAY ONT P7B 6L8 1-800-461-2156 I believe the fee is $15.00. The 1940 National Registration Records are available from Statistics Canada. The fee is $45.00 Cdn + taxes. However the information is protected by the Privacy Act. The person must be dead for more than 20 years before you can have access. They will ask for proof - an obit or death certificate. 1940 National Registration Records Description: The records provide social and economic information on individuals as well as information on their skills. Class of Individuals: All persons 16 years of age or older in the period 1940-1946 with the exception of those people who were, at the time of registration, members of the armed forces or a religious order, or confined to an institution. Purpose: The information was originally obtained under the authority of the National Resources Mobilization Act, 1940, and the War Measures Act to permit the mobilization of all of the effective resources of the nation, both human and material, for the purpose of the defence and security of Canada. The National Registration Regulations pursuant to this legislation gave custody of the records to Statistics Canada, then known as the Dominion Bureau of Statistics. Consistent Uses: A program has been established called the Census Microfilm and Pension Searches Sub-Unit to provide proof of age, place of residence, family relationships or length of residence in Canada from historic census records and 1940 National Registration Records. The service is normally provided in support of application for pensions, citizenship, passports and similar situations where other more preferred administrative records are required but no longer exist or, as in a number of cases, were never issued. Searches are also conducted to provide third parties with information on individuals who were included in the 1940 National Registration. This information is typically requested for genealogical purposes and is made available only if proof is provided that the person about whom information is requested has been deceased for more than twenty years. A standard fee of $45.00 (+PST and $3.15 GST) is charged for each search undertaken but the fee will be refunded if the search is not successful. Requests should be sent to: Census Microfilm and Pension Search Sub-Unit, Census Operations Division, Statistics Canada, B1E-34, Jean Talon Building, Tunney's Pasture, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0T6. Retention and Disposal Standards: The records are retained indefinitely. -----Original Message----- From: Irvin &Chris [SMTP:ijmorey@eidnet.org] Sent: Wednesday, May 16, 2001 7:54 AM To: WOODS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WOODS-L] 1940 Canadian Census National Registration Is there any kind soul out there who has access to the East York, Ontario National Registration Census File of 1940. 1. [WOODS-L] Woods family in Caribbean
    2. There was a prominent Woods family in St. Croix, Danish West Indies (now US Virgin Islands) in the late 1700s, through 1800s. They were connected somehow with Philadelphia, where William Henry Woods died in 1864. His brother was Edward Woods, born abt. 1797. Both were sons of Charles Woods, b. in America abt. 1750, a physician who took citizenship papers in St. Croix in 1781, during the Revolution. I have not been able to trace Charles's heritage back beyond the 1781 date; his birth date is an estimate based on his age (60) at death in 1810. He is buried in St. Croix. There is some family lore that says the family were originally British, but others in the family say that's the "myth" the family wished you to believe. Hmmmmm.....at any rate, Belize would be in the same sea-going sphere as the Caribbean islands, so there's a chance there's a connection. Do you have any Charleses in your line? Thanks. Laura in NC

    3. This was in Tues, 8 May, Springfield MO News Leader, p. 5B: Discovery of cemetery halts roadwork--Associated Press-Kansas City-- Construction of a new highway in south Kansas City has been halted by the discovery of a small cemetery dating back to the Civil War era. State officials are anxious to find any descendants of the Holloway family who are bured in the cemetery. If the heirs can't be found, the state will have to get court permission to move the nine graves in the plot, in order to finish a new Missouri 150. Construction workers recently unearthed a marble headstone, dating from 1858, while moving a large section of water pipe. Archaeologists later found another headstone and evidence of seven other graves. The site has not been disturbed further. -------- Please pass this on to other lists. Betty White Santa Barbara, CA

    3. I sent an e-mail to Jeff & Tosha, from an enquiry they placed on the ref. Digest. I received a message from a Charlie & Chris Woods, with an attachment. Without thinking, I tried to open the attachment, something I don't do from someone i am not familiar. My computer would not accept it. So I sent out a message telling them so. They sent me another attachment, as follows: Me_nude. AVI.pif . If this is what it looks like, I certainly don't appreciate receiving it on a genealogy list. It might be quite innocent, but I am not opening it, but am leaving it on the computer until I hear more. Hugh Borden.
