My brickwall is Edward WOOD, born Jones County, NC about 1836. His mother appears to have been named Nancy. She was living with him in the 1880 NC Census. His (maybe second) wife was Susan M.(?), the children were John, born abt 1872, Olivia, abt 1874, Charles, abt 1876, Mary, abt 1878. I believe this is the same Edward WOOD that in the 1900 NC Census is shown with children William H, born Dec 1882, Benjamin, born Oct 1884, and Isaiah A, born May 1889. If anyone has any information on any of the people, I would appreciate hearing from them. Barbara Wood Litt
Thanks Wayne, And isn't it a little redundant when the subject line already contains Re:[WOODS-L] to put WOODS, MARY FRANCIS, b. 7 Dec 1872, unk. Why now utilize the Re: [WOODS-L] as a part of the subject line post? Could at least get more info on the subject line. Seking connections to James WOOD, immigrant with Jacobite prisoners on ship Elizabeth and Anne from Liverpoole to VA in 1716. Family tradition identifies him as father of my ancestor David WOOD b. 1737, Louisa Co., VA, m. Mary WATSON, Louisa Co. 1756, moved to Albemarle Co., VA 1774, d. 1813. I have not been able to trace this James WOOD in Louisa Co., although fellow Elizabeth and Anne deportees John Michie and James Watson settled in Louisa Co., with descendents intermarrying with Woods there. Also trying to confirm connections to James WOOD m. Elizabeth CARR 10/11/1792 in Albemarle Co. and James WOOD m. Ann Elizabeth (Nancy) Lipscomb, Louisa Co. 10/11/1784. Thanks - Jim Wood

I am looking for information on family of Jonathan Wood, born c. 1765 d. after 1792. Married Elizabeth Bolton in 1790. Father of Jonathan Wood born 1792 in Hartford, New York. He may have been Quaker. With the calls for secession because of the roll call, I think I'll start a list of people named Jonathan Wood. I have five or six who may have been living in 1805. The roll call was staggering. On the 24th I received 40 e-mails, on the 25th, 153 about 90% of which were Woods-L! How dull, only seven this morning! Jim Wood
How is it possible to have a name without a date or place? You must have a date where s/he lived in a certain place. Or family ended up in Montana by 1900? Or stationed in Germany during WWII. You may not know where they were born or where they died, but you probably know some location where they lived, and give a date for that, even an approximate one. Just James WOOD, daughter Elizabeth married SMITH is no help to anyone. Burbie Woods was the son of Jessee Harrison Woods and Martha Ella Pickett, both of Orange Co., NC. Burbie married Annie Taylor and had four children: two boys and two girls. Burbie died before 1940 and the children were dispersed: the boys to Caswell Training School and the girls to Oxford Orphanage. I have no idea what happened to Annie Taylor Woods or where Burbie Woods is buried. We THINK the boys' names were John and Robert. They were about one year apart in age. Both were albino and had poor vision. The family story is that they ran away from the school as teenagers. My best estimate places their birth years as around 1933 and 1934. I have no idea as to the girls' names or ages. My questions: 1. Has anyone ever heard the name "Burbie" before? Is it a nickname for something else? 2. Albinism is a recessive gene, and both parents must be carriers of the gene. Is there anyone else researching the Woods who have found evidence of this gene appearing in their lines? 3. Does anyone know of any death records index for NC in the 1930s? Thanks Renee Woods Roderiques Roderiques@thegrid.net
Joshua J. Wood was born April 1857 in Ohio according to the 1900 Census. He was married to a woman named Malinda Jane Smith in 1887; they had two kids, my grandfather Jeremiah Rush (b. 1888 in MO) and Mary R.(b. 1892 in MO). In 1897 he married Mary C. The Census records for 1900, 1910 and 1920 disagree on the birth places for Joshua's parents: either OH or VW for his father, and OH or MO for his mother. I welcome info on these completely unknown parents, and on what happened to Malinda who disappeared without a trace before Joshua's second marriage in 1897. Thanks for any help or suggestions! Hi Folks, I'm looking for ancestors/descendants of Admiral Sir Andrew Wood of Largo, Fife, Scotland, the sailor who became known as the "Scottish Nelson" after winning a big naval battle against the English during the reign of Alexander III. Here's some stuff I've gathered on him: Andrew Wood - (born 1460 Largo, died ?) Date may be an error, 1450 sounds more likely. Only other name in the listing is for his relative, David H. Wood. Earliest Old Parish listing at the LDS for Largo and possibly all of Fife. Married Elizabeth Lundin, born 1500 in Largo, but unsure of year. Sir Andrew Wood and the Yellow Caravel Sometimes called 'the Scottish Nelson', Wood may have been a native of Largo and was certainly granted the tack of lands there about 1477. By then he seems to have been a merchant and sea-captain based at Leith. By 1484 the tack had become a feu in recognition of Wood's maritime services in the Firth of Forth. As one of James III's most trusted supporters, he played a prominent role in the events leading up to the Battle of Sauchieburn (1488), making his vessels available to ferry the king between Leith and Fife and supplying the king's army via Blackness Castle. After James' murder he quickly adjusted to supporting James IV and in 1489-90 undertook to defend the Firth of Forth against English interlopers. His exploits in command of the yellow carvel and the flower resulted in the capture of three ships under the command ofStephen Bull and represented a major achievement for Scotland's incipient naval power. Wood was rewarded with a knighthood, and various privileges including custody of Dunbar and the right to build a fortalice and erect a burgh of barony at Largo. In 1498 he was again engaged in naval operations, this time in the Firth of Clyde and Western Isles. He may later have been commander of the Great Michael. Many of the exploits with which his name has been connected are probably ficticious. It depends on how much credence is given to Robert Lindsay of Pitscottie. -- The Encyclopaedia of Scotland, ca. 1890. ----- Any more info on the old boy and his family would be greatly appreciated, with thanks. Dennis Bell Burnaby, B.C. Canada
Don't bet your paycheck on it. I think it's great to see some posts on the list. While I've not found any matches that are directly useful yet, I have been able to fill in some peripheral blanks.
