This roll call is great. Where are the WOODS of Virginia, primarilary southwest Virginia? I continue to search for RANSOM WOODS who lived in Roanoke County, Montgomery County, and Giles County. Born about 1816( he lied a lot about his age), married JANE HOOPS in 1838. had a son named ABRAHAM WOODS. Plus several other children. Need dates and names. Thanks Bea
I am so thrilled that I can open my e-mail and read any daily blurbs from the Wood list. I will read copious amounts of material to try to find any clue to my Wood ancestry. The roll-call was a great idea. Apparently some of us with Wood DNA inherited more patience than others!
Unsubscribe Going on vacation back in two weeks. Looking for Hempstead, Long Island, Wood(s) with ties to the Carman surname. (1640's - 1900). Rick Carman
I have faithfully looked at each Woods on the roll call, but I've yet to see any from Delaware. My ancestor, Joseph B. Woods was born in Delaware in 1804 His father, name unknown, was born in Pennsylvania His mother, name unknown, was born in Ireland. Joseph moved to TN where he had many children with Mahala, last name unknown. I assume he married her in TN as she was born in TN. Then they moved to Arkansas where they are listed on the 1850 Washington Co., census. I look forward to finding one of you who can help me with this puzzle.
Have been told that his father was Edward (1598-1642) of Nuneaton, England to Charlestown, MA; grandfather Lewis (b&d Nuneaton). Interested in exchanging info on antecedents & descendants, or just anecdotal info. Would like sources to back up my gathered info. Would like to get in touch again with Bob Wood, whose old address used to be <rjwood@ix.netcom.com>, but whose new address keeps getting returned to me. Also Andrew A. Canham, same situation. THX, Chris
Harold; Isn't this what we want? After all, you never know what woodpile your wood's might be in. I haven't seen any of mine yet, but I'm still looking and reading all the posts. willhn wrote: > > I'll be back in a couple weeks when the Roll Call thread > wears out! > Harold > -- Oren M. Samuel WOODS was born about 1822 in Virginia and married first to Sarah Cathey SANTMYERS in Shenandoah County VA in 1842. After living for a time in Kansas, Samuel married Caroline STONER in 1894. He died in Oklahoma 1902. I want to identify the parents of Samuel WOODS. Roberta Sharp rsharp@csupomona.edu
Double Amen, I, too have been reading the posts faithfully for two years. Haven't found anything yet, but I will continue to read everything, just hoping to find a small clue to my lineage. Jo McGhee Tennessee

Hi, This is my first time posting information on this list. I'll apologize in advance for the lack of many dates that I just don't know yet and also for the length of this post. This is compiled information that I've been able to obtain from my husband's Aunt who has been able to put some of her notes together from talking to her Aunt Nancy who is older and refuses to let anyone have family pictures, the family Bible (containing birth and death certificates) and other things in fear that they might get lost. And since some things have been taken from her (like records and pictures), she doesn't really trust people to even look through them. And it doesn't make it any easier that she lives in Virginia and we're in California. From what information I can gather, the WOOD family has always lived in Virginia, and probably came from the West Virginia/Kentucky side of the state. There seems to also be some mention of Tennessee, but I don't know how it's connected. We have been told that the father of Flora JONES (Milton JONES b.1831) was White Irish and Flora's mother (Sylvester MORMON b. 1830) was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. Milton JONES or his family owned one or two slave farms in or near Ruspburg, VA. This was a controversial issue in the family when Milton and Sylvester (a full blooded Cherokee) married. Also, Wyatt Douglas WOOD (who married Flora JONES) is believed to be of Indian/White/and possibly African American descent (would probably be listed as "mulatto"), which probably stirred up more controversy. So, when I ask where the "black" in the family came from (I don't in anyway mean for that to sound bad or negative), there is no definite answer. Nobody knows. Here is what I have on the WOOD family: Wyatt Douglas WOOD b 1851 m. Flora JONES b. 1861, they had 10 children: (all last names are WOOD, but for the daughters, I put their married last names) Frank Clifford Dewey Bernard Eunice WILLIAMS Leonora MARSHALL Bertha HENDERSON Mary FOX Zeliou BRADLEY and Wyatt Oliver WOOD (gg grandfather) Wyatt Oliver WOOD b. 5-1-1893 m. Clara Estell BROWN b. 8-4-1894 they had 11 children: (all last names are WOOD) Margie Bell b. 2-27-? Bonnie Estell b. 3-25-? Bernard b. 3-25-? or 1-5-? Mary Virginia b. 10-19-? Glenn Agatha Inez (has 2 more names, but I don't have them) b. 9-13-1935 Frank Huntley b. 12-24-1933 John Perno b. 3-5-? Richard Douglas b. 6-6-1930 Nancy Elizabeth b. 7-8-1928/1929 Wyatt Corinne (female) b. 7-7-1919 and Lillie Letha Ann WOOD (grandmother) b. 5-22-1928 or possibly 5-24-1928 (when she was born, the birth didn't get registered, for some reason, for 2 more days, so she always celebrated it on the 22nd even though it wasn't registered until the 24th) she died 12-25-74. The other names in earlier genealogy are: JONES, MORMON, BROWN, TATE, TATTE, TAPPE, TAPE If there is any connection to the names, or if you have a question regarding any other dates or names, please feel free to e-mail me anytime! My husband's aunt has more compiled information is some half hazard notes that she's slowly, but surely, straightening out! --Christa Irvine
I'll be back in a couple weeks when the Roll Call thread wears out! Harold
Hi, I'm new to the list and I seem to have come at the best time possible. I belong to several other genealogy lists and it's a rare occasion that I open my mail box and find so many possible connections. I was almost feeling guilty about posting my own information to the list, but I know I can't be the only one this is helping. I'm actually shocked that someone is complaining about reading all of these e-mail's. After all, aren't we all searching on a continual basis for the same thing? This is genealogy isn't it? I have to read all of the messages to make sure that I don't leave any stone unturned. It would be my luck that I would delete the one message that is the next step to my genealogy quest! I don't know how long everyone's been on the list, but maybe some should go back and reread the "rules" for posting to the list. Being that I'm new, and having just read them, I seem to recall something about the delete key being a powerful tool. Now, I'll post my quest, but in another e-mail with a proper subject heading so as not to step on any toes or cause anyone to open their mailbox unnecessarily. -Christa Irvine

Hope this sounds familiar to someone as I would like to find descendents of these people James Wood/s ( depended upon the day of the week as to weather he used the s or not ) m. Sarah around 1790 or 95 supposedly in Balt. Md. Then they traveled to what is now Greene Co. Pa for a period of years and by 1825 they are settled in Wetzel Co. WV and died there sometime prior to 1860. One known son is William WOOD b. about 1817 m. Dorcas Lemasters and had the following children; Sarah Ann b. 1838,,James A. b. 1840,, Jacob b. 1841,,Issac b. 1842,, Lemuel b. 1843,, Hiram Ransom b. 1847,, Nancy b. 1849,, Mary b. 1851,, Martha b. 1852,, Josephus b. 1854,, Dorcas b. 1859,, all of these children were born in Wetzel Co. WV and show up on the 1850 census for Wetzel. I can't get back any further than William or find his siblings, although I have some names that i think are his brothers and maybe even sisters but I have no proof as the records for Greene County burned. If anyof this sounds familiar please email me Thanks Rose ( Wood ) Baker
Looking for information on Henry J. Woods. On the 1860 Spartanburg County SC Census Henry indicated he was born in NC in 1816. All of the following household members were born in SC and their ages are those reflected on the 1860 Census: M.H. (38) F James H (12) John B. (11) William B. (10) Nathan J. (8) Thomas J. (6) Robert S. (1) NOTE: There are three other illegible names in this family 1 female (14) and 2 males (ages 4 and 2). I can find no entry for this Henry J. on any 1850 or 1870 census-- I have eliminated the Henry J in Darke County OH. There is a Henry J. Woods (born 1825 in SC) that shows up on the 1880 Greene County TN Census, but none of the other information matches. I would appreciate any help in further identifying either the Greene County or Spartanburg County Henrys. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico
