    3. I agree with Robin. One Woods / Wood list is enough for me, so I will stay with this one. My line is Wood and Woods both north and south. I don't have time to read multiple post of the same message on several lists. 3. Re: Subject lines Taking the trouble to write a subject line that includes ancestor's date and location can not be enforced. It is just a request for common courtesy since many have multiple lists to read each day. New subscribers, not knowing this courtesy are forgiven. It's like lifting the toilet seat. Nobody can make you do it, but we are all reminded of your lack of courtesy each time we have the misfortune to have to wade through your "doing your own thing." Tom

    3. My name that I'm researching is WOOD no s. I joined to find kin and did find two cousins with on s from this list. I will continue to be on this list, but I do like having the two lists. Dividing acording to location may not work because some start in the South and are up North back in 1600 and 1700's. Keep lists as is. Barbara Wood Pate

    2. Robert and Kathy McCoy
    3. Chris, I must echo sentiments of others and this again is no reflection on Mike. I would like to see one list and definitely do not want to split at the Mason Dixon line. Besides, where does MO belong? Just as a for instance, I was verifying some information on Elizabeth (as Brett said: I won't say who) and in the same sentence is John Woods and John Wood. A transcription error I am sure, but how many of these have happened over the years - hundreds I am sure, but the families are related. I agree with keeping WOOD and WOODS together. Have you ever heard something like "That's John Woods daughter, Jill", well lo and behold, theat was Jill WOOD daughter of John WOOD.......... My mother was a WOOD and has cousins that are WOODS. Somebody added "s" sometimes, and sometimes NOT all the way back to 1850 that I can prove is the same line.......... I'm not sure of the other names or varients, but the WOOD and WOODS being on two list means that someone might miss something that has/hasn't the S on the end, depending on which list they subscribe to. If the list will be broken up for sure, I guess I'll subscribe to both, but I tell ya, I think they should stay as they are. Debbie Cossey Wasserburger the GenMaster Huntsville, AL

    1. [WOODS-L] Re: S vs no S, N vs S pros and cons
    2. Kenneth D Wood
    3. Hey there, I'm one of those people that has to look for both spellings, and fortunately my WOOD/ WOODS stayed in the North until they had better record keeping. I see some pros and cons of multiple lists, You will not get your own message back twice, unless you send it to both lists. If you send your message to both lists in a CC format, you might get zapped by the list owner. Some of my WOOD ancestors cannot be found in some of the census if you don't look under WOODS, which means you would have to post to both lists if you're hoping for help from there. North vs South is easily taken care of in the subject line, N= North, S=South, I open all ROLL CALLS, if I see VA, NC, TN, KY or other southern states I can delete without reading. If I find an ancestor from the South, then I'll start posting them, hoping someone will see them. Post WOOD to the WOOD list, Post WOODS to the WOODS list, A REPLY to you will be on the list you posted to. OR, ASK for a private answer, and put your E-mail address on your posting. When I started searching for my ancestors, I didn't know that the one I was looking for, HAS an S on his birth record, and dropped the S on his marriage record. If I didn't know this today, I might sign up for the WOOD list, looking for his WOOD name, when it might be posted at the same time on the WOODS list. I'm sorry to go on about Subject lines, but that's where it's at, and when you belong to two, or more, lists that are running ROLL CALLS at the same time, you end up reading all evening. 2. Chris Lamesfield
    3. Hi All, You all know the saying "you can't please all.....". Well, the decision has been made and it's done. Neither this WOODS list nor Mike's new WOOD list are democracies. You have a choice, either "go with the flow" or pick one of the other forums for your WOOD... discussions. Please allow this new split to settle and see if you have the same feelings a month or two from now. "YOU" can make a different decision then if you don't like what you see. Please, if you have to make your point, make it to Mike and I who can do something about it, and don't disturb the "silent majority" who are just "going with the flow" for a while. They are only interested in the WOOD... family. Please don't post any further discussion about the what we could have done, and be happy that you now have a choice of forums for your WOOD... family discussions. PLEASE, THERE IS NO NEED TO REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE ON THE LIST!!!!! Chris WOODS list Owner/Moderator

    1. [WOODS-L] I never read subject lines
    2. Judith V. Wood
    3. Everybody, I NEVER READ SUBJECT LINES at all. Probably because they do not visually grab my eye. But that is me, and I don't read WOODS messages, and I don't read SOUTHERN WOOD or WOODS messages, but I find that part out through the beginning of the message body copy. But hey, with 800 people on the list, we can't all get what we want. I just DON'T WANT TO BE TOLD that I MUST do an approved subject line. Tough, huh? I also don't want to tell anyone else what to do. I may never find my brick wall Wood in Batavia, NY....but I can't blame the list, either. Sorry if this offends the subject line people, maybe your email page is set up in a more easily read format than mine....Judi Wood

    1. [WOODS-L] Bettie Wood's List?
    2. Walter D. Wood
    3. What is Bettie Wood's list. How do you subscribe. More details please. With very few exceptions, all my ancestors used WOOD. I am already overloaded with mail/lists but I will subscribe to all WOOD(S) lists at least for the present. But PLEASE, USE THE SUBJECT OF YOU MESSAGE TO GIVE NAME, PLACE AND YEAR as has been describe many times in messages from Chris I get really tired of having to read messages that do not have descriptive headers only to find they have no relation to my ancestors. I deleted many of the messages from the recent Roll Call without reading them because they did not have a proper subject. Note that often two names were given but the person's name was often shortened to just one; e.g., John Andrew Woods shortened to Andrew Woods or just John Woods. Andrew, named for St. Andrew, was (and is) of course a popular given name in Scotland. I have no information on the first Andrew Woods listed and would like to know the source of the information. The latter Andrew Woods of Hanover, then in Lancaster Co., Penn. was (with wife Sarah) the parent of JOHN WOODS (the 2nd son of ANDREW) who m. Mary Espy and lived in Hanover in Lancaster Co., Penn. who wrote a will in 1765 and proved on 17 Jan. 1770 in Hanover Twp.. Genealogies]; John; William; Samuel; Sarah; Anna; Margaret; Janet; Marey; Elizabeth; and Martha. Lancaster Co., Penn. will: Written March 6, 1761; Probated May 19, 1761 WOODS, ANDREW. Wife. He m. Sarah ____, who was b, in Irel., They may have had 9 children, three of whom were John, and perhaps Jane, and perhaps George. John Woods b. ca 1720 in Ire., d. 1769; m. Mary Espy, b. 1722." The wills are obviously of the same Andrew Woods, but the will dates are different! According to a source this Andrew Woods was the son of "John Andrew Woods, b. 1654 in Scotland; m. in Ireland about 1681 Elizabeth Worsup; they had Elizabeth, b. 1682 and John III (Petrocek) b. before 1685. Also four sons Michael, William, James and ANDREW all of whom came to America." [Source: Rita Espy Kuhbander and William G. 1. [WOODS-L] Multiple Wood(s) Lists - Yes, I Care!!!!!!!!!!!
    2. I live in California,,, My Wood family was from the South (TN) moved to the North (IL) and then to the MidWest (NE) and finally the West (WA). So why not just split the list by East and West or the Mississippi River? Perhaps the 4 quadrants would be lots of fun.... And while we're at it let's have Wood lists by first name A-F, G-R, and S-Z!!!!!!!!! damn,, we could even go to State and County lists too, or before 1900, before 1800, before 1700,,, or,,,,or,,,,, or?????????? Enough with the filters!!!!!!!!!! Geezz. Look, I want to see ONE file for all Wood, Woods, Woodward, Woodwind, Woody, Woodntdy, ignoring all of the whatever subsets we can think up. All my other lists are combined and in digest mode makes reading very simple and less time consuming.... Additional places to research is NOT helpful.... "One stop shopping" is my vote. Ron
