    1. [WOODS-L] Elizabeth Woods vs. Elizabeth Worsop - Proof
    2. Robert and Kathy McCoy
    3. There has been much discussion in the past in this group regarding whether Elizabeth Woods or Elizabeth Worsop was Michael Woods mother. Stephanie Scott and I have received copies of the McClenaghan papers that were verified by the County Librarian in Meath County Library substantiating that E. Woods is Michael's mother. Page 122 has a rendition on the Woods family. I have scanned these documents and put them on my website at http://www.hsv.tis.net/~rkmccoy/roots/woods/woods.htm. They are in a PDF file. If you do not have the Acrobat Reader to read them, it is a free download from many sites, one of which is http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html. While no evidence this far back in history is irrefutable, this is the best WRITTEN evidence I have seen so far. The file is 1.2Mb, so be patient. Stephanie has also contacted Hibernian Research Company in Ireland to get us validated evidence of the John Woods line. Cost is $250 for 5 hours which is their estimate. I have 8 volunteers to help defray this expense, but we think it may cost a little more and we'd like to get some more help and keep this to $20 or under per person. By contributing, you get an opportunity to contribute to the questions that Stephainie is submitting. Deadline for submitting questions and a check to me will be May 1, 1999. The more money we get, the more we can spend on the research and share with others. Please reply to me at rkmccoy@traveller.com if you are interested in participating. For those who have already volunteered, thanks, I'll get more info to you later. Best Regards, Bob McCoy The glass is half full - Make no judgments

    1. [WOODS-L] William Woods (b 1804) TN>SC [Updated Information]
    2. Brett Woods
    3. As has been so kindly pointed out by about eighty or so researchers, I made a slight typo in my original query. It has been corrected. Once again, I'm trying to separate fact from fiction regarding William Woods born 30 April 1804 in Greene County TN. William was the son of Michael Woods and Esther Shields, and the grandson of Archibald Woods and Isabella Gass. I need to verify (or disprove) the following information that seems to be out there everywhere: ITEM: Did William marry a Mary Polly Moore on 8 March 1822 and have a son Andrew Jackson Woods born in August 1839? 1. Who was Mary Polly Moore? 2. Where did they marry? 3. Did they have any other children? ITEM: Did William marry a Rebecca Hall (b 1808) on 26 January 1826? 1. Who was Rebecca Hall? 2. Did William and Rebecca have any children? 3. What happened to Mary? (presuming he really married a Mary) ITEM: Where did William and his wives live? 1. There is no record of them living in Greene County TN. 2. Did he move to another state? ITEM: Where and when did William die? 1. There is one entry that indicates his death on 7 October 1831 (no location). 2. William in clearly indicated in the 7 January 1858 will of his father Michael as his 2nd son. 3. If William was mentioned in 1858, then it stands to reason he did not die in 1831. NOTE: There is some indication that William moved to SC and lived there at least prior to 1850. This may be factual due to the fact that his cousins (the descendants Archibald and Isabella) were probably still living in SC. If William [and Rebecca?] were living in SC, then he would have had at least one son, James H. Woods, who was born in SC in about 1847. James eventually moved [back?] to Greene County TN, and on the 1880 Greene County TN Census shows up there married to an Elizabeth Fox, daughter of Isaac and Rachel Fox both of Greene County TN. I would appreciate any information or leads. And sorry about the typo. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, NM

    3. Hello all- Today I saw a sign regarding employment opportunities for census takers for the 2000 census. I know I take it for granted that someone took the time to visit my ancestors and write down all their information for me to see 100 years later. If you can spare the time at all, please consider being a census taker (I don't work for the census bureau) so that our genealogical information will be preserved for years to come. (Just in case, your filing cabinet worth of notes, doesn't survive!) The census bureau has an employment site: http://www.census.gov/dmd/www/employ.htm I'm going to try and do it in my area and I encourage others to do the same! Vicki Fair

However, I have not proved that John L WOOD is their son, though I strongly suspect it. I need proof! Unfortunately, William WOOD disappeared (most likely died) in the 1840's. So, he missed the 1850 census. And I know almost nothing about him. His wife (now married again) and family are with Ambrose BLAKE in 1850 in Martin co, IN. >From land records, Synthia Ann BLAKE and Ambrose BLAKE sold property in the area in the 1850's. I have found nothing more on Synthia Ann. Ambrose BLAKE seems to reappear in Knox and Henry counties, IL later. He lives near the MAUCK family here and marries Lucinda MILLER in the late 1850's. William and Synthia's children appear in 1860 to be living with their uncle, Henry McCART and wife, Harriet, in Martin co, IN. Do any of you connect to this family? I am interested in all WOOD(S) families in Orange, Martin, Crawford and Lawrence counties, IN, from 1810's thru 1880's. Darrel
