    2. Hi Steve, I will look up for you tonight in the Gorton Book I have of 1907 if that is appropriate. I have been monitoring this list for as long as a year and am starting to get into my WOOD , Silas and Dorcas who married Peleg Gorton who d. 1801 in Lebanon Springs. I have never been straight as to where Dorcas and Silas met. I have 2 different Gorton stories . Then in one of my County histories there is a Silas Wood (NY). My book does not say where they married. I for some reason thought they married in Swansea, Mass. Now I have read something else that says Samuel Gorton of Swansea the Doctor "removed to NY" . That would mean then that Peleg was not first out but Samuel was. needless to say I need to refer to my book anyway don't I? So will give you yours and all I have if you like. 2. The Name is Patrick T. Woods, Father Thomas E. Woods and Grandfather Patrick M. Woods. Little is known about Grandpa but was born May 16. 1855 in apparently Armagh, North Ireland, was a "Bobby" in London(where he married Harriet Stapleton around 1879)and left for the U.S.A.(Chicago)around 1884-85 where he died apparently around 1929. He had two brothers, Frank and Charlie, who settled in Enid, Ok., and some other sibblings. Anybody have any additonal information? Patrick T. Woods E-Mail Patnan56@aol.com

    1. [WOODS-L] Joseph, Joseph, Joseph
    2. Steve & Anne Lanning
    3. Hello all. I'm trying to resolve a contradiction between two reports regarding several Josephs and who goes where. I am accurate on Joseph marrying Lydia Rackliff about 1796 in Standish, Maine. But one report has him as the son of Joseph and Mary Waugh, while the other has him the son of Joseph and Sarah York. The next 2-3 generations back are therefore all amiss, but they do both return to Samuel of Groton, MA. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? My great-grandmother married Franklin Benjamin Woods, s/o Benjamin Jones & Angeline Holmes, he s/o Joseph and Lydia rackliff, and he s/o, well, now we're into the problem. My grandmother, d/o Franklin & Desdemona Hunt, married a Lanning, and then so on to me. Can we "busy up" this list for a few days and straighten me out re Joseph, Joseph, Joseph? Thanks. I have some Groton and Lancaster births/marriages records (Woods only) if anyone would like a look-up. Steve Lanning

    1. [WOODS-L] Samuel Woods (b ABT 1724) m Mary Mitchell in NC
    2. Brett Woods
    3. Slowly but surely getting there, but I continue the process of fleshing out the family of William Woods (b. 1695 Ireland - d. 1785 Orange County NC). As taken from the Woods-McAfee Memorial, I now need some help with William's third child, Samuel Woods (b. ABT 1724) who married Mary Mitchell, and stayed in NC inheriting the family home on the Hycotee River. Samuel and Mary had the following male children(according to WMM) and I would appreciate any information on their descendants. Further, even if you just know something about just one of these sons -- or know of any daughters -- please drop me a note...it all adds up. 1. John Woods; married unknown, two sons Andrew and Green. 2. Andrew Woods 3. William Woods 4. Thomas Woods 5. James Woods Thanks for any help. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico

    2. Brett Woods
    3. Does anyone have any details on the family of Matthew Woods and Margaret Faucett, Orange County NC. They had at least three sons born around 1800: John, Richard and James. I have received information that James and Richard moved to Chester County SC. In 1822, John married a Lavina Jones in Orange County; however I have no information that he also moved to SC. Thanks for any help. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico

    3. While rummaging around in the LDS site http://www.familysearch.org/ I came across the following list of children for William Woods and Susanna Wallace. The family breaks out as follows: William WOODS (AFN:1QGZ-M8) Born: 2 Nov 1715 Susanna WALLACE (AFN:1QGZ-NF) Born: 1719 Children: 1. I don't believe they are part of this group...at least I haven't seen them connected before. Are they, in fact, somehow connected to the Michael Woods/Cambell family? Any clues? Thanks. Brett F. 1. [WOODS-L] Alexander Woods - Mary Robinson circa 1790 - Orange Co NC?
    2. Brett Woods
    3. Does anyone know the children of an Alexander Woods and a Mary Robinson. They supposedly had five sons and one daughter. The only one I can locate is a John Woods (1795-1852) who married a Sarah Ann Lynch. There is an Alexander Woods on the 1840 Orange County NC Census, however I am unsure if it is the same individual, or perhaps one of the unknown sons. Thanks for any help. Brett F. 1. [WOODS-L] James and Henry Woods(numerous) Orange County NC 1750-1830
    2. Brett Woods
    3. Although my primary interest is the Henry Woods indicated below, I have included the names of some other children in this line as, at least to me, they do not seem familiar. In any event, I'm trying to connect the Henry J. Woods who was born in NC (probably Orange County) in 1826. LDS indicates his father was a James Woods, also born in NC (in ABT 1803?). Henry's mother (James' wife) was allegedly named Lavina and a Lavina/Lavinia shows up on both the 1830 and 1840 Orange County NC Censi. Henry's year of birth comes off the 1860 Spartanburg County SC Census. Henry's oldest son James H. Woods (b SC 1848). I am wondering if Henry could be descended from somewhere in the Thomas Woods line. Thomas was born about 1730 in Orange County and died about 1800. LDS indicates he had the following children: James (b 1758); Edward (1760); Joseph (1755-1833); William (1762); Blayton (1764); Henry (1766); Thomas (1768); Mary (1778); Heaney (1774); (there is no indication of gender) Lydia (1776); Elizabeth (1770); and finally Mildred (1772-1822). Additional LDS information indicates that Thomas' son Joseph (1755-1833) married a Mary Leathers in 1778 and had the following children: Joseph (b1781); James (1786); Henry (1780); Solomon (1782-1830); Elizabeth (1785); Sukey (1787); Mary (1789); Nancy (1791); and William (1784-1819). Regarding my query, since, from what I know, the name went from James, to Henry, to James, perhaps the James (b ABT 1803) has a father by the name of Henry? Also, if someone has some information that disagrees with the above family groups, please advise me, as I would like to maintain accurate information. Thanks for any help. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico

    1. [WOODS-L] Rowan County NC Woods (1790-1820)
    2. Brett Woods
    3. I have posted this before and received little response -- in fact, I don't believe I received a single response. My question is, who are these Woodses and where did they come from? Is one of them the parent? Or, are they brothers? Are these the descendants of one of the Albemarle County Woods brothers? They seem to be the same family names....and seemed to have lived in Rowan County for at least thirty years. Any ideas out there? Brett F. 1. [WOODS-L] Henry J. Woods (b 1834) Surry County, NC
    2. Brett Woods
    3. Anybody care to take a shot at this one? According to LDS, Henry's parents were a James and Lavina Woods who were married in Surry County. James was probably born in Surry County in the early 1800s. As you probably know, Surry was part of Rowan County and lies on the Virginia Line, south of, I believe, Patrick County VA. After checking the online Surry County census indexes, I can find only two Woodses: a Lazarus in 1830, and a Michael in 1840. Any ideas as to which Woods line this James' family is descended? Thanks. 1. [WOODS-L] Henry Woods (b NC ABT 1826) Son of Peter Middleton Woods?
    2. Brett Woods
    3. Regarding my earlier query as copied below -- and recognizing the fact that few of us are mindreaders -- I'm trying to determine if this is the same Henry Woods (born ABT 1826-8) who was the son of Peter Middleton Woods and Jane Walser (of the Benton-Carroll County TN Woodses). I apologize for leaving this out of my earlier posting. Thanks. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico ************************** Does anyone have any detail on the following family?.
