William was married three times, Cynthia Brooks,Rebecca Hatley and Barbara Clanton. Daniel was married to Mary Williams, Charles was married to Mary Ann Barnett and Nancy Williams. Someone sent me a note a few months ago requesting information on a Sidney Woods. I ran across the following bio and, since I have lost the note, I thought I would post this here. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico Sidney S. Woods, farmer and stock raiser, was born April 29, 1819, in Howard county, Missouri, upon the farm where he now resides. His brother, James WOODS, was born upon the same farm April 3, 1821. Their parents, Patrick and Frances WOODS, originally of Madison county, Kentucky, came to Howard county, Missouri, in 1816, settling the place which these brothers now occupy. With the exception of three years spent in the war, Mr. WOODS has always lived in Howard county. These brothers jointly own a farm of over 517 acres, upon which is a good house, barn and small orchard. My Walter Eugene Wood, born 1866 in IL, was son of unknown Wood father and Sarah Matilda Bullock Wood, who was from upper state NY. Walter lived in the Chicago area, where he married Lillian May Wood, Wood, and had three sons, Douglas, George and my father Raymond, born in 1900. George worked for the railroad for many years in Chicago. I have data to share on the descendants, but not much on the ancestors. Barbara Wood in CA.

Please help me if you can!!! My gg-grandfather Simeon WOODS was born in KY in 1825. I find him first in Hickman Co., KY at the age of 25 living with a Thomas WINN family, who came to Western KY from Central KY. In 1860 Simeon is still in Hickman Co. living with his wife Elizabeth Jane LUTZ and their 4 children: John F., Simeon James, Norbin Vinson and Madora. By 1870 his wife Eliz. Jane has died and in Aug of 1870 he married Nancy Elizabeth "Bettie" SPARKS BONER. They had the following children: Rosa, Minnie Naomi, Emma, William Henry, and Edward. I have found Simeon listed often as Sim WOODS and in the birth record of one of his children he was listed as James. In 1881 he was murdered in Ballard Co., KY. He may have had a sister named Jane who married an ADAMS. Can anyone help me discover the identity of his parents? Thanks for any help!!!!!! Nancy Courtney

Have most of the descendants pinned down, and ancestors of Rebecca but not the ancestors of William. I am happy to exchange info with any other descendants, but have kinda run out of leads in VA. I have absolutely NO proof of that, and until I find out who Jacob's parents are, I probably never will. I don't have any info on Woods/Waltz. Sorry. -Anita
Greetings: I descend from Lewis & Polly (Woods) Baxter of Glover, VT area. In the 1850 census for Glover, Vt they are listed as follows: Lewis Baxter 41 m; Polly Baxter 43 f; children: Stephen Baxer 12 m and Josephine Baxter 7 f; Josephine Baxter married Henry Harrison Paine Aug. 29, 1864 in Glover, VT and they removed to Underhill, VT area. Lewis & Polly (Woods) Baxter apparently removed to that area also, as they are burried with Henry & Jose (Baxter) Paine at the Underhill, VT cemetery. Lewis' grave stone gives his dates as 1808-1891. Polly's grave stone reads 1807-1876. Do you have any information on any Polly Woods from these areas of VT?? Cheers, John C. Schumacher-Hardy PO Box 1697 So. Lancaster, MA 01561-1697 (978) 368-8470

Woods of Toledo, Ohio and then another family, the Ivyl Shaw family - another very old genealogist- gave this to me. Dr. Woods has written a lot from an oral history handed down by the family. Apparently when the Woods family left Germany in 1751 they were the Waltz family My Jacob was b. 6/10/1740 and m. Isabella Russell b.1743 marriage date unknown. Their ch. Joseph, John, Elizabeth, Joshua, Enos, Jacob, Lewis . Then, Joseph Woods b,Oct, 27, 1770 m. Sarah Peterson and their child, Jacob b Aug. 21, 1825 m. Lydia Hatcher (b. If so, can you help me? 1. Concerning the evolvement of the Woods/Waltz name-? 2. Any other children of the Joseph Woods and Sarah Peterson family? 3. Would you have Sarah Peterson (Woods) parents? 4. Do you know of the parents of Isabell Russell? THANKS!! Dolly in Ohio

Wood; there are few names included of persons born after 1800. At any rate, the references to New York in the manuscript are as follows: "According to family historians, one progenitor of the Long island family of the name was Edmond Wood, who emigrated in 1630 to Salem, Mass., and removed in 1644 to Hempstead, Long Island. He died at Huntington, Long Island, about 1660 and had at least two sons, Jonas and Jeremy or Jeremiah. Of these, Jonas is said to have resided at Oram, on Long Island, and to have left issue there; while Jeremy or Jeremiah left issue at Hempstead of, among other children, a son named Jeremiah." "Jonas Wood, probably a brother of the immigrant Edmond, removed from Massachusetts to Connecticut and in 1644 settled with his family on Long Island. His son, Jonas Jr., was probably the Jonas Wood who resided and left numerous issue at Halifax." "Still others of the name who emigrated at early dates but whose records are not complete, were William, of Salem, Mass., in 1629; Constant or Consider, of New London, Conn., and Nathaniel, of Massachusetts, in 1635; Jonas and Edmund, of Springfield, Mass., in 1636; John, of Saybrook, Conn., in 1637; Robert, of Dedham, Mass., in 1638; Edward of Charleston, Mass., in 1640; William, of Newtown, Long Island, in 1640; Jeremiah, of Stanford Conn., in 1641; Nicholas, of Concord, Mass., and Richard, of Boston, in 1642; Daniel and Samuel, of Ipswich, and John, of Dorchester, in 1643; George, of Huntingdon, Long island, in 1644; James of Long Island, in 1649; Elias, of Dedham, in 1658; Edward, of Boston, in 1659; John, of Taunton, Mass., in 1662; John, of Ipswich, in 1676; William and Nathaniel, if Ipswich, and Tryall, of Salisbury, Mass., in 1678; Joseph, of Taunton, in 1680; William, of Salem, in 1690; and Richard, of Norwalk, Conn., in 1694." "According to some writers, three brothers of the name of Wood, Isaac, Daniel, and Obadiah, emigrated from England to Connecticut before 1727. Of these, Obadiah is said to have been the progenitor of families of the name in Westchester County, New York." "Another early settler in New york was Stephen Wood, who was married on Staten Island about 1727 to Geertje or Gertrude Winter. She gave him at least two sons, Stephen and Obadiah. In 1751 Stephen Wood, of Staten Island, and his wife, Jemima Mott, had a son named Richard." Regards, C. Woods

If you think you may have some information regarding any of these individuals, please write and I'll try to provide further details. I suspect that this SAMUEL WOOD, who raised this family in Newton County, Georgia before they all moved to Fulton County to obtain work on the railroad there around 1850, could be a descendant of one of the several SAMUEL WOODs of North Carolina, but seven years of searching have failed to turn up a reliable lead on his parents. He does state, consistently, on census records, that he was born in Georgia. Thanks in advance for all replies. Regards, Carla Woods
