They eventually migrated to Coosa County Alabama by 1850. Is this a peice of anyones puzzle? Russell

Has any researched the Samuel, Jacob and Jeremiah Woods that are enmumerated on the 1790 Washington County PA census? I am wondering if they are connected to the following Woods family that is referenced in following Chaukey, Augusta County VA entries: 19 August 1794--Daniel Donavin and Jacob Woods, surety. Daniel Donavin and Elizabeth Woods. Affidavit of Elizabeth's full age. 24 February 1800.--Mary Woods relinquishes her right to administer on the estate of her son Jacob Woods in favor of her son William Woods. 24 February 1800--William Woods, administrator of Jacob Woods. 7 March 1800--Jacob Woods' estate appraisement taken by Jno. Gamble, Jno. Bell, Wm. Young. I would appreciate any information on either one of these groups. Thanks for any help. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, NM
Brett, My heart skipped a beat when I first read your post. I will give you what information I have on my Jacob (4GGrandfather): Jacob Woods, b. Mar 28, 1805, Westmoreland (possibly Armstrong) Co., PA, m. Barbara Widaman b. May 10, 1808, 1829 in Westmoreland Co (possibly Armstrong) PA. They had 11 children: Daniel, Joel, Caroline, Isaac, John, Lebbeus, Catherine, Mary, Lavina, Eli. Unfortunately, I have no information on the names of Jacob's parents other than assumed in the 1810 census, but so far have been unable to prove anything. In my records, Jacob's mother was married 4 times: Wible, Stillwell, Likes and lastly, Woods. I do not have first names on any of her husbands, but do know that Jacob had a half-brother named Isaac Wible which he was very close to, which he nameed his fourth child after. I have extensive information on Isaac, Lebbeus and Eli, Jacob's sons and their descendants. Any of this ring a bell? -Anita Wife to Russ, sahm to Nick, Eli, John and #4 due 06/29/00: homebirthed, homeschooled, cloth-bottomed, breastfed, family bed, noncirc'd, nonvacc'd (Thank you Jesus!) bfwoods@trail.com writes: << Has any researched the Samuel, Jacob and Jeremiah Woods that are enmumerated on the 1790 Washington County PA census? I have found a great deal about the ancestry of the subject James Harvey Woods which I can provide to interested researchers. Do I recall correctly that his name was the subject of previous message traffic? James' will can be found in Fannin Co., TX, probate Will Book E, pp. 270-271. He had several children, but only one was mentioned by name: Sarah Ann Woods, b. 1830. George W. Page
Hello there Woods List, I am new to this list, so please bear with me if something like this has already been discussed. Supposedly I descend from Samuel, Samuel, Samuel born 3 Jan 1660 through the later's daughter Mary. In THE WOODS FAMILY OF GROTON, it says that Mary Married Joseph Wilson, and died in Keene NH. I have found her baptismal record, the marriage of her father Samuel and Hannah Farwell, but I have not been able to find any source for this marriage. Can anyone out there help me, either with the facts or an idea that I may have overlooked in searching. I am trying very hard not to pass on mis information. thanks so very much for any help at all. Lenore
I recently ran across a large, 2-volume text entitled "Marriages of some Virginia Residents 1607-1800." It was written by a Dorothy Ford Wulfeck and this edition was published in 1986, but it's probably a reprint of something else. In any event, the following is a verbatim transcript of one of the entries under the surname Woods: Richard, Col., d.1801, son of James (d.1784); m. (1) Margaret_____; m. (2) Elizabeth Ann Stuart, sis. of Col. John of Greenbrier Co, and dau. of David (d. ca 1767, Augusta Co.) [References] Albemarle, p.356; Kogley, pp.562, 572; Waddell, p.370. Does anyone have any idea as to the identity of this particular James Woods who died in 1784, and is indicated to be the father of Richard? Thanks for any comments. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico
You wrote....I'm new to the Wood list. Seeking info of ancestors of Rhode Sparrow Wood...... You list her Father as Simeon WOOD...Do you think any of your WOOD/WOODS made it to KY? My toughest brick wall is my GG-Grandfather Simeon James (Sim) WOODS b. KY 1825. As hard as I try I cannot find who his parent's were, it has made me crazy for 12 years. I have lots of WOODS info, but do not seem to have any other names that you mention, and you do seem to have some unusual ones such as Beasey, Eliab, Ichobod, and Albec. Could be they just didn't make it to KY. I have entirely too many James', Johns and Williams. I do have a Norbin and a Madora WOODS. Nancy Courtney

I haven't posted for a while and since the list seems a little quite, thought I'd send my post again to see if anyone has information. I am looking for information and on Moses WOODS of Lancaster, PA. born 1813, Lancaster, PA...According to the census records, he states his parents are from Ireland. Does anyone from PA show who his parents could be? In 1834 he married Mary Ann Wright. She died in 1848 and he remarried to Catherine Wolfe of Preston Co. VA. (now W.VA) Any help is greatly appreciated. Have a super day.
I would like to make contact with anyone who may have some information on William and Susannah C Woods's children-Abbeville S.C. William died in 1804 while Susannah C Woods probated her will in 1829.I understand that there has been a fair amount of research on most of their children but I would certainly appreciate any information on Robert Woods who was born around 1783.Is the Robert Woods of the 1850 and 1860 Coosa County Alabama Census the same Robert? This particular Robert Woods had a large family. Robert died before the 1870 census. His wife's name was Elizabeth. Does this jar anyone's memory? Russell
My grandfathers name was Clarence Woods (with an s) while we were all brought up as Wood. I know very little about my fathers family...only that my grandfather is Clarence, born 1907 (not sure where). His father Clayton, (which may or may not have been his name) lived for some time in Minden, Nebraska. Clarence and his sister, Rowena, grew up in Iowa....I think around the Algona area. He and my grandmother (Mildred Nelson) had one son, my father, Charles Clayton Wood. Then they divorced and Clarence moved to southern California, remarried, and had 2 daughters. Only other things I know about this line of my family (grapevine), we may have Native American ancestors, may be distantly related to Buffalo Bill Cody...and may have someone back there who was hanged. I would love to find out more. Can anyone help?
I am looking for any information on Dr. Michael Lambkin Woods (often simply M. L. Woods0 (b. 1807 TN d. 1887 Ft. Worth, TX), his 1st wife Sarah May Preston (b. 1811 ? d. 1844 prob. Harrison Co., TX) or their children, esp. James Preston Woods (b. 1844 prob. Harrison Co., TX d. 1899 Ft. Worth, TX). I am uncertain when the family came to Harrison Co., TX, but they seem to have removed to Tarrant Co., TX by 1854. Any information on this family or its ancestors would be greatly appreciated. -- ******************************************************** James P.
