    3. The Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Series of the "Penn. The following Woods (in alphabetical order) are cited in Penn. 2. Joanne Webb
    3. Hi'yall, Well maybe I can get it right this time. The date in my previous letter was my Grandfathers birth date instead of Frederick's (his father). So to unscramble the mess, the one listed in Jackson Co., born in 1834 WAS my G-Grandfather and his son Owen was my Grandfather. In the 1970 census he would be about 35 or 36 depending whether the census was taken before or after his b'day. Now I need to know how to access the Ohio census records. I'm learning how to do this. Be patient with the "old lady" and thanks for the first lead in a long time!

The 1880 Federal Census would confirm which one was the father of Joan's Frederick Woods! It would also give the state of birth of young Frederick's grandfathers and grandmothers, which would help a lot to taking her Woods genealogy back even further. George W. Page

    1. [WOODS-L] Introduction: New subscriber from South Africa
    2. Daniel
    3. Hello all, This is just a short e-mail to introduce myself and record my interests in case someone else is researching the same branch of the WOODS family. I am Dan Daniel resident in Durban South Africa. My maternal grandfather was a WOODS, hence my interest in the WOODS family. I am also researching my paternal line which is Daniel. The progenitor of the WOODS family I am researching was James WOODS born 1801 in (town unknown) England, died 27 January 1847 Brixton London England, buried Norwood cemetery Brixton London England, occupation cheesemonger. He married Ann Pontifex on 31 January 1833 at All Saints Church Edmonton Middlesex England. Ann Pontifex was born 14 April 1810 Mitcham Surrey and died 25 January 1856 presumably also in Brixton London England, buried Norwood cemetery Brixton London England. They produced seven children, one of whom came to South Africa: Edwin Woods, born 21 October 1844 Brixton Rise Lambeth England and died 25 May 1901 Pretoria South Africa. My sources for the above are both primary and secondary and are available. Is this line being researched by any other member of the list? I look forward to responses. 2. Brett F. Woods
    3. I have a copy of "Genealogy of the Woods Family, 1649-1895" by Lucy Alexander Embrey. (1940) It is signed by Lucy, dated December 24, 1940, and inscribed to a Mrs. J.A(?). Rice. It is, as they say, a modest volume (about 40 pages) and details the family of John Woods, the son of William Woods and Susannah Wallace. Unfortunately, it also relies heavily on Woods-McAfee. Consequently, there are some errors in the early lines. Aside from the above the line goes like this: John Woods and Abigail Estill Charles Duncan and Mary Woods then down to surnames: Modena, Embrey finally to Lucy. If you happen to know of anyone who might want this book, let me know. I'm not trying to sell it...it's free. But it's not my line so, if not for historical fact, perhaps someone would like it as a family memento. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico
