    1. [WOODS-L] George Dwight WOOD, 1855 - ?, MI
    2. I know how hard it is to find info on any WOOD or WOODS as the names are often interchanged. This WOOD did not match my WOOD(S) line, so I offer the following info for anyone whom it may help.... G. Dwight WOOD. of Putnam (Livingston County, Mich) married Elvira J. RIDDLE of Howell (Livingston County, Mich) on January 19, 1876 in Howell by Rev. William PUTNAM. Witnesses: Thomas EAMAN and Ada HOWARD births: Annie Estell WOOD, b. March 29, 1878 Mr WOOD was born 1855 in Putnam, married in Howell, and died in Caro, MI. I have a copy of the obit, but it has no date on it. It lists his mother, Sarah WOOD of Anderson, MI; two sisters Mrs Julia PANGBORN of Anderson, and Mrs. A. F. WAGNER of Bandfield; three children, Miss Estelle WOOD of Sault Ste. Marie, Mrs Joseph FULTON of Virginia, IL, and C. M. WOOD the twelve year old son, who lives at home with his mother. Internment took place at the Caro Cemetery. He was a member of the I.O.O.F of Caro. The obit goes into more detail of his life, where he worked, his illness of several months from which he seemed to recover then a sudden illness from which he died. He and his wife moved to Caro about 20 yrs before Mr Wood's death, so I would assume most if not all of their children were born in Caro. I am willing to copy this info and send it on to anyone it may help. there appears to be a wealth of info in the obit. Kate <EatAtKates@aol.com>

I have no idea who her parents were, etc. Am very eager to discover such. This is all I know of her: Polly WOODS married Lewis Baxter, probably in Glover, VT area. She was 43 years old (born c1807?) in the 1850 census and living in Glover, VT, Orleans County. Her husband was 41 years old (b. c. 1808?) at the time and they had two children listed: Stephen (12 years old) and Josephine (7 years old). Josephine married Henry H. Paine at Glover, VT in Aug. 29, 1864 and her mother, Polly (WOODS) Baxter was listed as having been born in Glover, VT. Josephine (Baxter) & Henry H. Paine moved to Jericho and Underhill, VT area soon after their marriage. They are buried in Underhill, VT and their grave stone also conveys the names and death dates of Polly's parents: Lewis Baxter d. 1891 and Polly (WOODS) Baxter d. 1876. It is probable that they too moved to Underhill, VT and died there. If you ever come across anything more informative about Polly's WOODS ancestry please let me know!! THANKS! Cheers, John C. 3. Hi Joy and all, This blows me away. My husbands G'father was John Roper , born Sept.10, 1872 in Yellville,Ark. My G'father was Owen Woods, born Oct. 8, 1873 in Bladensburg,Ohio. John Roper had twenty two children by three wives. Owen's father was Frederick Woods, born Aug.7,1834 in Ohio. Thats all I know about that line. I would like to get farther back, maybe to N.C. The Roper family is more interested in finding descendants than ancestors and has a big reunion in Mtn.View,Ark. every year. I'll be offline for about six weeks and looking forward to catching up with my mail about Feb. 29. Joanne Webb

Joy Killough Hi Joy, I am working on the WOODS and FARLEY familys. Hezekiah may have been the son of Stewart Farley whose Will (C--416 , proved Oct. 1799) Caswell Co., NC., who names wife Mary, son Hezekiah, John Burton , Henry Burton, Daniel S. Farley, witnesses Durett Richards and Ambrose Arnold. Was Mary Farley, who married on 20 Dec.1800 William Woods , the sister of George Farley ? 1. [WOODS-L] SUBJECT LINE: better used? Please read this!!!
    2. Chris Lamesfield
    3. Not all subscribers have the time or energy to read all messages in search for that elusive match. Many, open only those which appear promising. MAXIMISE the chances of YOUR MESSAGE BEING READ BY YOUR INTENDED AUDIENCE, that is YOUR MATCH! HOW? Use the SUBJECT LINE to give very SPECIFIC DETAILS about the individual/family your are looking for. Subscribers to most other genealogy lists do precisely that. Furthermore, to facilitate reading, they tend to follow some sort of 'not so rigid format'. Examples: ?WOOD John, b1840, Miami, Florida, USA ?WOODWARD Timothy, m1790, SMITH E., in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil WOODY, Ray, Elaine, Susan, res. 1870, in Bs As, Argentina ?WOODS Joshua & Jessie, res. 1891, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada Notice the pattern? 1) SURNAME always in capital letter (even within the text of the email), then 2) First and Second names of individuals. Commas to separate individuals. 3) Date with a letter indicating whether it is birth, marriage, death, residing. Worthwhile, even if it is very broad. If someone is looking for WOODS in 1600s, they don't really mind if your 1800 date is off by some years. 4) Location, State, Country. In full, to reach those yet unfamiliar with the area and its abbreviations. 5) If you have a question preceed the Subject with a queston mark, if you have informaion about the subject, omit the question mark. Subscribers AVOID using subject lines that may not carry sufficient meaning to others, such as: Wood family My family My Woodys My neck of the Woods Aim for QUALITY AUDIENCE: YOUR MATCH. Cheers, Jorge Woods, in Canberra, Australia. ==== WOODS Mailing List ==== No part of these messages nor the archives file containing them may be published or redistributed in any form by a "FOR PROFIT" or commercial organization. 3. With a new administrator for the Llano Co site, I am posting again the branches which I am searching from Llano and Mason Co families in hopes it will trigger information some of you have stored away. Maybe the new millenium opens up new horizons for us all. First, I am searching for information on the parentage of Captain Christopher Guess "Kit" Wood, b 1/22/1819 in Indiana, m Mary Jane Gholson, and who was in Ft Mason, TX by shortly after third child was born in 1851. Died in Mason Co 12/24/1889 and his wife died there 6/8/1884, both buried at Gooch Cemetery in Mason. His parents were supposedly Thomas S Wood, b England, son of Samuel Wood, and Sarah Pearson, b S Carolina, daughter of Joseph Pearson, but nothing else is known except that Thomas and Sarah were married 11/20/1816 in Orange Co, Indiana. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kit Wood lived with his parents in Indiana, just across the Ohio River from Kentucky, and his future wife lived across the river in Kentucky. Married in Kentucky, ?? and then came to Texas. (Note: this does not agree with data available about Dr Jacob J Gholson, his father in law, who first came to Texas in 1830-but apparently family didn't come to Texas until later years) Came to Texas about 1839 at the age of 19. Oct 11, 1847, received a grant of 320 acres in Cherokee Co, TX.. Listed in 1845 tax records in Nacogdoches, TX, a territory that included several counties, Cherokee being one of these. His oldest child Jacob, on papers concerning his Confederate Army Service pension, dated Nov 29, 1912, states that he was 67 years old and born in Cherokee, TX. Moved next to Navarro Co, TX, where second child was born in 1849. By 1851 family was on the way to Fort Mason, Texas; living awhile in McLennan Co, TX, where third child was born. Fourth child born in Fort Mason, TX. Reported to have carried with him in later years his bible when travelling in a wagon. In this Bible, it is said that he also had a list of his ancestry. What became of the old Bible is unknown, and there are no known pictures of he and his wife. Elected Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5, Mason, TX Oct 2, 1875 Also searching for the parentage of William A McGinty and Lucretia Arnold. He was born 7/2/1809, d 3/17/1894 and she was born 8/4/1812 and d 2/14/1883. They moved to Goliad in 1850,eventually to Mason Co and many of their children lived in Mason Co area for much of the remainder of the century. Had 10 children as per family bible records: 1. 2. Brett F. Woods
    3. I ran across the above James B. Woods on the 1850 Alexander County NC Census. His wife's name is Margaret [also born about 1790] in North Carolina. Both James and his wife are living in the home of their daughter "Dovey" who was born ABT 1824 in NC. "Dovey's" husband is a Milas Milholland also born ABT 1824 in NC. James could possibly be (according to various LDS entries) the James Woods born in Huntsville, Rowan County NC, between 1790-1795. This James married a Margaret "Peggy" Hunt, c1823. Any ideas from which Rowan-area Woods line this James might descend? Thanks for any comments. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico

    2. I just joined this list and thought I'd throw my sketchy information out to see if anyone can help me. The Woods enters in on my husband's line. His great-grandmother was Roberta Woods. All we know about her is that she died 11 May 1926 in Albequerque, New Mexico and was buried on 12 May 1926 in Fairview Park Cemetery, Albequerque, New Mexico. The story goes that she was married to a Woods... my husband doesn't know the first name of this Woods and he doesn't know her maiden name. She had several children with this man who all bear the Woods name. At some point she ran off and married Fred Burtcher. They were married we think in Albuquerque,New Mexico. They had at least one child who is my husband's grandfather, John H. Woods b. 8 Dec 1896 in Albuquerque, New Mexico (we think) d.20 Feb 1956 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and is buried on 22 Feb 1956 in Fairview Park,Albuquerque, New Mexico. John H.
